Baseball is back on in Greystones. Beginners and experienced players male and female are welcome at all levels for the 2009 season at Ireland's longest running baseball club.

The adult team is training on Saturdays in March from 1 to 3pm at the Charlesland Sports and Recreation Centre in Greystones, with games (mostly in Dublin and Greystones) starting in April, when training will shift to Thursday evenings. (Right now, additional fitness training is happening on Thursday evenings at St. David's school at Greystones seafront.) If you are interested in playing, come on down this Saturday. See our website for map and directions.

Youth baseball is starting from 11th March for boys and girls 5 to 7 year olds (T-Ball) and 20th March for ages 8 to 13.

For adult softball (mixed recreational), please check the website later this month for starting times - training will be Monday evenings starting soon.

Is there a deadline for when you can join?? I really wanna play during the summer but wont be able to start proper until about may/june

Sure, come out when you can. While it's best to join now before the games start, we continue regular training throughout the season, so latecomers can be integrated if they are committed.

Like the poster above I would be very interested in playing, but can't for another few weeks due to college commitments, would hope to be able to start end of april/start of may. Could you say whats the standard like, if I've never swung a baseball bat in anger am i wasting my time? I've played cricket and tennis to decentish standard so amn't a complete div when it comes to hand-eye coordination...

All comers catered for. Not a waste of time if you want to play, or want to try. We do have the full range of abilities and experience in the club, all are encouraged, and we have two squads, A and B, which play in the higher division and lower division respectively. We've had cricketers, hurlers, rugby players, etc., and many guys play multiple sports. Knowledge of the game is a challenge for some newbies even if they are naturally talented, but sure if you're on this forum you must know baseball well enough!

Great stuff, knowledge of the game certainly wouldn't be a problem, as a major MLB geek I've read enough books about baseball history and strategy to have hopefully picked up the theory, it's just the putting it into practice that may be a problem!

Yeah, I'm just talking about things like tagging up on a fly ball (unless there's two outs), or not throwing to the base behind the runner. And basic rules of the game.

You guys (vote4pedro and Mad Max) should come for a Saturday training if you can now, even if you can't come every week till you're done with college. Just get acclimated and see what it's like. We've got other guys on the team in college, so it's not impossible!

Damn. I'd love to play baseball but I'm stuck in Laois. Sucks there isn't a team around here.

My commitements are just sundays (which I think is when games are played?) due to football so saturdays would be no problem for me at all to even try it.

Like the other poster I'd have the knowledge from watching/reading but I know all to well watching and playing are completely different.

I guess I should upgrade my glove from my junior one I've had for about 8 years before I pop down though ;)

Pre-season Saturday training is over. Now doing normal Thursday 7pm training. Games are on Saturdays, not Sundays.

We have an extra glove you can use till you upgrade.

Hey, I'm an American who would love to play some of the good ol' game while I continue to make the transition (7 months on, now) over to Ireland.
