I have been looking at classic mustangs and 911s. There seems to a huge difference in the price. I have seen beautiful mustangs for €10,000 up to €300,000 for a GT 500 Elanor.
I would like a beautiful 911 or mustang that i could drive (not leave in a showroom). How do i go about choosing one ? Could one get a decent one for under €15,000 ? What are the maintenance costs of holding one including Tax, insurance etc
What year would you buy and why ?

    All advise very welcome.

I have a 1986 911 3.2 Carrera cabriolet for sale, asking €17,950 but open to reasonable offers. It would make a much better daily driver than the earlier cars, but there is the downside of the road tax - just over €1,500pa.

Would the tax be classic tax if it was over 30 years old ?
I have a lot of research to do before looking at particular models.
How much would you spend per year on maintenance ?

What year are you thinking of for a Mustang?

I have sold Porsches and Mustangs to Ireland, and to be honest they are two totally different cars, unique in their own way, but offering completely different driving experiences.

So to be able to determine which car would be most suitable, there are a lot of questions to ask yourself.

I would presume everyone that's ever driven a Porsche or owns one, would steer you in the direction of a 911, and all Classic American car lovers, would advise you to go for just the one car, the Mustang!

    :D

Well the late 60's. I'm really looking for other experienced views and why one year might be better than another. Whether it's a 65 or 70 doesn't matter to me a lot(but im sire there is a price difference :). For me The GT 500 Elanor looks out of this world, something close to that :) The late 1960s fastback looks great also.

It seems that mustangs in the 70's are getting beefier and more of a muscle car image. The late 60's are less beefed and just look incredible.

Tax on any car over 30 years is classic tax, €48 a year.

How much on maintenance cost is difficult to day, it would really depend on the condition of the car, how much it is driven, if you are going to do the work yourself or send to a specialist etc.
Best thing to do is when you decide on a car is to talk to owners of this type of car, go to shows etc.. most owners are happy to give advice. Also look for websites dedicated to the type of car you want and join a car club, there is a porsche owners club and an american muscle car club where you could find out a lot more.
