    07 Passat 1.6 petrol
    07 Vectra 1.8 petrol
    05 Peugeot 407 1.6 petrol

    07 Opel Astra 1.4,

I guess the astra would be more economical but how many miles per gallon would I get with the other ones?

    Any comment is much appreciated

the astra or passat are prob the nicest. i'd imagine the astra is more economical.
you cant get a 1.6 petrol 407, only 1.6 diesel or 1.8 petrol

I would actually say the Vectra 1.8. The others are cars that are to heavy for the engine. eg, I had a 1.8 petrol Mondeo, OH had a Focus 1.4 petrol, the Mondeo had better MPG than the Focus.

I'd agree with you there. The engine wont be as stressed. I remember talking to a guy once who said he chose an e240 over an e200 because it was lighter on petrol in real world driving

Small underpowered engines in heavy cars and naturally going to be heavier on juice as the engine struggles to carry the weight around. A bigger engine will require less effort and will be more efficent.

OP you should also include the likes of the Mazda 6 and Ford Mondeo. Both came in 1.8 litre and I would class both cars as superior to the others on your list. Just make sure the Mondeo is the Zetec or Platinum model with the 125bhp 1.8 litre engine as opposed to the LX or Steel with the 110bhp one.
