    Bear with me on this....

Thousands of hardworking, motivated, skilled and educated workers are suddenly jobless through no fault of their own, and find themselves sitting at home watchinig Dr Phil and worrying about how to pay the Mortgage.

Our elected representatives in Leinster House are obviously not coping with the problems and the pressure, and our economy and country are falling deeper and deeper into an abyss. Meanwhile, the government's opponents would rather nit pick at their failings than come up with practical, helpful solutions.

My solution: The best of the newly unemployed Celtic Tiger achievers should band together, create a new political party, and force a general election. The public are so unhappy with what's available at the moment, an injection of hope, innovation and change will be welcomed with open arms.

When in government, they can use their experience, skills and education, combined with the drive gained from being in the personal dire straits of unemployment and debt, to steer the country back on track, to develop new strategies and policies across the board to eliminate corruption in governmental departments, to effectively allocate funding to where it's needed, to tackle the unemployment situation and basically to wipe the slate clean and try to bring us back to prosperity.

Or is this idea even too far-fetched for AH?

    Just one major problem.
A lot of folk are slumbering, too complacent or just couldn't be arsed doing something to help their fellow man!

This is why the gurriers persist for example, in the Dail and corruption continues inside and outside its doors.

Not all of them will be hardworking, motivated, skilled and educated. The chances are some of them are unemployed because they lacked all or some of the skills above while their co-workers didn't.

Power corrupts. Soon enough the new overloards would be lining their pockets and shafting the rest of you mere underlings.
I will be one of the overloards.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

How will this new party be financed?

I dunno, how are the existing parties funded? I'm not a political strategist, just a girl, standing in front of an AH mob, asking them to love her :D

If it is by way of contributions from wealthy financiers, stringent audits and inspections should be made to prevent "future favours".

Theoretically, a good idea. In practice - too many hurdles and variables for it to actually work!

This has gone in a whole different direction than the one I was expecting.:D

Declare war on the United States. Surrender before they can attack. Ask for bailout funds to rebuild (WWII Germany and Japan?).

You know why its more difficult to get a government job if youve had credit trouble? Its an indicator that you are more susceptible to accepting bribes.

Similarly a bunch of unemployed people in power sounds like a terrible idea because they will look after themselves first, just like the current government.

I can see each of these new politicians being more sympathetic to those who work in their old sector, than to the rest of the country. More likely to look after themselves and their friends. So for example, a ex-builder would start pumping money into construction, leaving IT peoples in massive debt!!

I think we should replace the politicans with robots. That way when the word strike is mentioned we can program them to deliver a firm b!tch slap upside the head.

Yes, that would help bring policy formation back to a nuts and bolts level.

    well biggins,
    you know these things
how do we carry out a military coup?

    :pac:

Well, first you have to disrupt the lines of communication (by quiet stealth).

Now years ago this would be easy but today because of mobiles alone your talking a number of digital communication systems to effect with a killer knock-out virus with a built in timer. This virus alone would have to be targeted at the source servers (including their back-up systems) of all digital signals incoming and outgoing via satellite relays. Over a number of different company frequencies, this means attacking many servers and back-up systems as well as taking over their actual headquarters within the country in case they try alternative, emergency communication methods (i.e. Satellite phones as a simple example)
    - Then there is landlines, runners for help (witnesses that see trouble and go tell someone physically), O' and don't forget about taking out the internet too in the country!

Communication would be important as when you start your physical coup, any old ejit with half a brain could get on the blower and shout for help!

    * Then there is the actual manpower needed. We're talking thousands here. Not a couple of hundred like in a south African country.

    * You have to take control of the military from the top. Taking them out is no use, the underlings with military precision and train will just kick in and take over.

    * Then there is the persuading of those in power, to relinquish it.
Not an easy thing to do when so many in the power line of assention are there in the country/outside it, to replace a toppled head.
(You will also have to know the location and control over every powerful/influential T.D. alone too)

    * This means taking over the Dail - this should be easy physically as the feckers are never really there but the building is a place of law so it has to be controlled. The Dail could be used as a centre for organising resistance for example!
*** NOTE: Its written into law somewhere that a T.D. CANNOT be stopped from attending the Dail if he wishes to! You can't stop a T.D. apparently from driving to the Dail and attending to his/her seat there. ***
    • This was used a while back by one T.D. who wished (failed) to escape an drink driving charge. He was pulled over by a Gardi, who was told "I'm on my way to the Dail" (The fact that it was 8.30 at night was of no use to the Gardi). The T.D. could have been breathalysed and charged for drink driving but he could not be removed from his car and stopped from going to the Dail. This 'quirk' was written into law as to try and stop any future coups!
So the suspension of the constitution and rule of law would have to be enacted. In other words a "state of emergency" would have to be announced and all common laws would have to be suspended!

    * Don't forget about broadcasting buildings. Radio/TV and now satellite stations. All this takes further man power!

    * Then there is the problem of international governments refusing to recognise your take over of power! This helps if Ireland was steeped in oil, gold, uranium or other special items of value to a foreign power! Have none of those? Your up schite creek to start with!

You could take a total alternative route and threaten to blow up the country with a nuke if F.F. don't resign but then if they don't do just that, are you going to press the button and take out the whole country (direct damage and/or wind blowing radiation clouds, etc) - just slightly defeating the whole purpose of your attempted coup in the first place! :pac:
(Same principle applies for any threat be it biological virus or contaminant into water sources, etc)

...I could go on. The above is just a brief "tip of iceberg" summary of things involved! It can be done but with years of planning, manpower, finance, equipment and other things not best mentioned here. lol

...Not that I have given it much thought! :pac:

It would just be quicker just to let the country be invaded. Give it time.
If we ever discover uranium here or the worlds biggest oil field under our feet - that will happen in a flash!
