    Sky Digibox
To add channels to your "Other Channels" option on a Sky Digibox then simply do the following....
    · With your digibox turned on, press the "Services" button (near the top of the remote).
    · Select number 4 ("System Setup"), and then 4 again ("Add Channels").
    · In the appropriate fields enter the information required (you move through the fields using the up and down arrow keys).

    · In the FREQUENCY field enter the 5 digit code, (it starts with either 10___ 11___ or 12___ in the table below). Don't worry about the . in the frequencies in the table below, they are not required on Sky Digiboxes.

    · The next three fields are toggle fields, i.e. use the left and right arrow buttons to change the values.

    Toggle Polarisation - either H or V
Toggle Symbol Rate - either 22000 or 27500 (29500 cannot be received on a Sky Digibox)
    Toggle FEC - either 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 5/6 or 7/8 (only 2/3, 3/4 or 5/6 are used on the channels below)

    · Then move down to the last last option - "Find Channels".

    · Use the Yellow button to place a tick beside each channel you find and wish to store and when you've finished ticking press "SELECT". These channels will now be stored in your "OTHER CHANNELS" menu. (Press "SERVICES" then select "OTHER CHANNELS" at the bottom).

    Non-Sky Satellite Receivers
For the many Non-Sky FTA satellite receivers that are available out there, you will have to consult your user manual for how to scan for new channels as each box have different menu systems and options.

So, the following channels are now all available via satellite FTA (Free To Air), meaning no card is required, just tune it in and you can watch away. (The many UK regional variations are also available in the table below this one and many are found generally on the same frequencies as the Irish versions).

Channels in bold cannot currently be viewed FTA and require a subscription or FTV viewing card, but there is a strong chance that they will become FTA in the future, when suitable space is found on the Astra 2D transponder. Their frequencies will almost certainly change so if and when they do become available for FTA viewing, their details can easily be amended on the table for all to easily find and the bold status will be removed so you will know when the frequency provided is for a working FTA version of the channel. :)

The FTV channels are listed here anyway for reference and also for people who are using a CAM and FTV card to watch so they can tune them in also. Note that FIVE USA and FIVER cannot be viewed on an Irish Sky card and will only work on a UK subscription or FTV card. :)

    # All Channel 4 related channels including timeshifts (+1's) and spin-offs (E4, More 4, Film 4 etc) are the Northern Irish/UK versions of the channels and are completely unrestricted so there will be no programmes blocked such as movies or US imports. :D

    * For most STB's (but NOT Sky Digiboxes), ITV HD can be tuned in, but, it requires you to either tune in another channel altogether and edit its details to the correct ITV HD settings in order to view, (this is done either on the STB itself or via a PC depending on manufacturer), OR you can download a channel list for your STB, (again, depending on the manufacturer), and load the channel this way by connecting your STB to your PC via serial port or USB.

ITV HD is currently an interactive application broadcast on Eurobird 28.5, but may launch at some point in the future as a full channel that can be tuned in normally like the rest of the channels on the list. This will only happen is sufficient space is found on Astra 2D and if this does happen, the table will be updated with the new tuning information.

    Good post, Paddy C.

I'm stickying it for now, but I'm hoping to copy in Charles Slane's thread/post in here too, as it covers all BBC and ITV regions.

I'll consider it a bit more, and work on it later.

Note, Danny B, I may have to remove your post so that the only posts within will be information. Sorry :)

    EDIT:

Just to say, I've agreed with Watty that we shall keep Charles Slane's original post, as it contains all ITV and BBC regions, as well as instructions on how to manually tune Skybox. Paddy, your helpful post has been copied to that thread, all other posts removed (to tidy it up).

    Thanks.

I have updated the list to include all UK regions for BBC 1, BBC 2 and ITV, including the radio and interactive channels and information on how to tune them in via a digibox or general FTA receiver.

If you want to make this thread a sticky now again as it has all the required information in the one thread rather than in several. Or whatever you prefer, either way, as long as it's handy for everyone to read and find the information. :)

My, how far we have come since 2005, the year since Charles started his thread. Do many of you remember the campaign in the many years before?? The many telephone calls to UTV, the many emails to both Sky and the BBC, asking them to make available the BBC channels on Sky here in ireland. Since then, we have all the BBC channels, ITV, channel four, and now five.
Great work by all in keeping those keyboards busy during the past many years.......
Did we have a hand in all the UK channels coming free to air for us????
probally not, but at least we kept them all busy reading our emails !!:pac:

most of them are still only available thru "other channels" on Sky and not recordable on Sky+, this is still pretty annoying and something Sky could probably sort out without too much hassle.

No, the satellites are too far over the horizon for us to be able to receive them. There are US channels available on other satellites, but that would warrant another thread, as this one is for the UK Free To Air channels only. :)

I haven't included music channels, and Film 4 & Film 4+1 were already listed by Paddy C and as such are duplicates. BBC News and BBC Parliament likewise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

Actually, the only reason why I didn't include the other free channels is that most people will probably be doing this with a Sky Digibox, and most if not all of these channels would already be on the EPG so they won't need to tune them in. The table was only for channels that were free to air but not on the ROI EPG (which is basically the unrestricted BBC, ITV, C4 and FIVE channels).

    Paddy

Brilliant, well-laid out post - thank you!

One question- I'm not finding channel 5 on the settings listed.
    Has it been blocked?

(I'm aware I might not be missing much, but still....:D )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

    Big B

No, it's still there, are you sure you're entering everything correctly?

The channel is labelled as "Five" so it should come up straight away, and will probably be last on the list of channels available at 10.733 H 22.000 5/6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭big b

    Hi Paddy

Nah, I've checked 4 times now that I'm inputting the correct info.

listed are the 4 Irish channels, DW-TV, 4 Irsh radio stations & 9604

Don't know what 9604 is, "no listings available" which usually means the channel only broadcasts later in the day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

You're putting in the wrong information!

If you get the RTÉ channels coming up, you're entering in 10.744 (or something close to it) and the digibox is simply selecting what's closest and using it.

To get FIVE, enter 10.773 H 22.000 5/6. That should work fine.

Just noticed actually that the frequency is wrong in my table - d'oh! Shows what happens when you're hurrying things and have too much noise around you! Can one of the mods please restore my editing status so I can fix the posts?

    haha, no problem Paddy.
Must admit, I was starting to doubt myself though!
I actually wondered if there was a typo, just as I was writing this.

Happens easy enough, thanks a lot for your help. :)

It's outside my control. Maybe admins can do something. I think it's someting to do with amount of posts after your OP, or time lapse, that causes the Edit function to get disabled.

I have done some editiing already (specifically all the 10733 references and the BBC HD polarity).

What I do suggest you do is maybe write a new thread with all the current info from the first post, and make whatever edits you need (I may need to send you the OP in text format for ease of editing the table again?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

If you want to do that then, that's fine. There isn't much to add, just a small bit.

After that you can sticky it and then job done. :)
