Restored isn't the word I'd use to describe that porsche. Pimped, maybe!

The Camaro looks fab, though would by no means be my first choice with €20K to spend. :)

I agree, I'd have to go for something I would be comfortable driving on a daily basis - An early 911, (or 912) just not that one.

    Chevy,
Even thought it Really isn't my thing, that 911 looks like a dog man...

Can you imaging how beautiful it would look if it was just restored to original? Probably would have cost something similar too. A perfect example of what NOT to do with a classic...fwiw..

I'm going to disagree with the others, and say I prefer the look of the Porsche - I like the 935 look.

Anyhoo, though, before spending the money - there's a catch - I'd want to know more about the restoration, e.g. who and what was done, and to what extent. If it passed muster then, I'd go for it.

However, despite being a P-car man, I do like the Chevy, and on a day-to-day basis, it'd probably a lot cheaper to run (excluding the fuel !). More civilised, comfortable - but I think it's over priced.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

if it's from owen reddy then it's definately overpriced.

but back to the question, pick the camaro

    thanks for opinions...
I was thinking that a restored car would be less hassle than a stock one that needed all the work.

I like the idea of all the camaro power for classic tax and insurance.

Owen reddy dropped the price last week from 25 to 19 grand.
Anyone know how long its there ???

That 911 isn't 'restored', it's modified. If it was restored it would be worth more.

a 72 completely modified will always fetch less than an original car. If it was done to original spec it could have fetched 20k plus. The photographs are physical prints, which to me sounds like the restoration was done a good while ago...

the Camaro is definitely overpriced bigtime for a car of that vintage. The older series may command that sort of money, but they always loose out in value against the Pontiac Firebird and the likes of the GTO's. These models go for around the 10k mark here in the Netherlands. I know of a superbly original 67 GTO which would a 10 times more interesting than a Camaro :D

I have an Irish reg 911 on the books and there is now also a Irish reg 912 coming in shortly of similar value, these would be superb value for money and especially the 912 would make a very practical daily driver.... http://www.classiccarsireland.eu/autos_detail.asp?ID=408

I was just looking at that Targa yesterday, I had a model almost exactly like it as a kid (on Fuchs).

Very nice car, I really want one someday.

I think that would be the most commonly used phrase I keep hearing all the time :D:D:D.

Oh and Justin, you know deep down, you really want a Porsche anyway, so sell all your Vw's and take the plunge... :p

what would you think the camaro would be worth ??
Im looking on the net and they range from so low to very high.
Hard to put a figure on the owen reddy one as it looks in perfect condition...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 827 ✭✭✭PaulK_CCI

a good/excellent 2nd generation Camaro 70-81 is generally worth between 10-15k. All depending on condition (a car can look absolutely stunning on the photographs, but can still be a dressed up rustbucket). If a special engine is fitted, this would only genuinely add to the value of the car, if the car left the factory with it!! The 1st series Camaro's (66-70) had some very intesting specials, like the RS and the Z/28 which nowadays, in original condition, or restored to perfection command silly money!!!

Out of this 2nd generation, the 1st series (sharknose) is most desirable, with the latest ones at a premium because the Z28 came back, and that was, even though not half the car that the original first series was, at least a decent performer. Engine wise, the mid seventies was a dreadful era, with emission controls killing off the lengendary early Z/28 and RS.

I can pick up half decent camaro's for around 7-9k here on the continent, but they will need some tlc, or some have fallen foul to the boy racer brigade, jacked up rears with ultra wide tires and hideous bonnets, spoiler lips, wheel arch extensions and bright colour schemes...

That's a lovely looking car. It only needs a nice set of Fuchs. :)

    Some day for me, too!

i.e. City/traffic, windy country roads, motorway cruising, long trips, short trips etc. :)

I'd go for the Porsche only for that front bumper!?!?!... Looks horrible.

I stopped in Owen Reddy's one day to see all the nice cars that are usually advertised. Only saw that Camaro, my god was it nice.

I know where there's a very tasty Camaro for sale in excellent condition in every way, really, really tight car (and it's not mine).

    PM if interested.
