    Yes.
    He was just laughing.
    Nothing else.

You won't find anyone here who finds potential dangerous driving so funny.
Imagine if he had hit a child while throwing his head back with wild abandon at some joke or other.

I wouldn't want to be that police man going to that house to tell the poor parents -
"Well, you see Mrs Jones, it goes something like this: An Englishman, an Irish driver and a Scottish pedestrian were in a tunnel one day....."

Only in the UK, had a good laugh at this one. :pac:

Not knowing the full facts only what was reported, but I would go down the line that the driver was not in proper control of his vehicle & may have made a manouvre which brought him to the attention of the police.

While it is not an offence to laugh, it is an offence to drive without due care & attention. I'm surprised Sky entertained this one.

But what if he heard a joke on the radio and couldnt help laughing? Could they make it an offense to have chat shows on your radio while driving ?

Maybe he was listening to Colm and Jimjim or Ray Foley - original comedy can do that, you know.

Irrespective of a radio chat show or a friend making a person laugh the driver is the one responsible while driving. The buck basically stops with the driver.

The only excuse I've heard of, which possibly is a plausable one, was a fit of sneezing. This was classed as an involuntary bodily movement.

    You think thats bad: http://parenting.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/02/breastfeeding-while-driving/?hp

If its not in the system he wasnt charged with anything. Maybe the copper thought he might be stoned and pulled him over for a sniff around. No harm no foul. Either way if youre laughing its a decent indication your full attention is not on the road conditions (though even I find that crock reasoning: could we pull over people for having conversations with their passengers?).

Think you picked me up wrong, read my post again I said "The only excuse I've heard of, which possibly is a plausable one, was a fit of sneezing. This was classed as an involuntary bodily movement" i.e. a sneezing fit could not be helped.

If he had the misfortune to be listening to Colm & JimJim I would say the poor fella would have been in tears, and wondering how such dirge is allowed on a national radio station.

But they told him it was because he laughed, which on the face of it is over zealous policing and newsworthy.

I wonder are there any statistics on how many accidents were due to distraction whilst the driver was roaring the head off at the kids ?

It has to be somewhat common.
