did some one from first class in the national school wright this .
the buck got tangled in rope and then the fence post it happens ,all hear say no facts in the story on link to the videos , stag partys or names of restaurants

with out question poaching is going on in that part of ireland also but this type of story is no help to hunter or deer .
no bucks left in the area ,do they expect them to be standing on the road .
they did not put there name to the story ,read as if a girl of 6 penned it.

Firstly I don't condone poaching, the dumping of bodies and any other illegal acts when it comes to hunting. That's without question

    But

The quality of the article aside (it was tripe) does anyone know how to catch a stag, alive, and tie his antlers to a post? They must have some serious tranquillisers or something. I think you'd be mental to try this, most stags down my way (Reds) weigh more than I do and have these long pointy sharp things on their heads called antlers. I would never attempt this. Has anyone ever heard of this before, it just seems "off" to me.

Also if they know people are organising illegal poaching as stag parties surely they can bring action against them

While some of the article rings true, poaching does happen, people do dump deer carcasses, trophy hunting takes place (often quite legally) etc there seems to be an awful lot of BS (no not bunny shooter) in that article.

Surely you mean condemn and not condone!!

As with a rabbit the best way to catch a live red deer stag is to put salt on its tail, yes that ancient trick has been used for thousands of years, it is far easier to do now because of the plentiful supply of salt available. Make sure you dont use rock salt as rock salt is more suitable for catching wild boar.

Failing that use carrotts around christmas time.:D

Yet another deer story from the west. The campaign by the two "deer managers" continues. Flooding the media with horror stories of poaching and cruelty and putting the public on high alert to protect their investments.

you would not want to be a rocket scientist to work out where it is coming from.
i bet they will be offering there services to manage the deer on the lands in question and put the hunters that are all ready there out of the picture .
the click system in operation again

More than likely that the deer had picked up all the rope or whatever from garbage thrown away by careless fKwitts in the country. This does happen quite frequently and got itself entangled in the fence.

Somone then shooting in the area= deer poachers using a live stag as a decoy:eek::eek:.If anyone who wrote this or knew anything about deer.A Stag does not call to attract other females. He calls to challange other stags off his terrority.Anyways why am I telling you all?Grannies and sucking eggs.Either way I've never heard of a decoy deer either, and to confirm what Veg said it would be a brave person to tie a full blown stag in rut mode of any shape to a fence.Plus that bit of string that in the pic wouldnt hold a fully spooked stag.Smells of hype and sensationalism.

Anyway, I think I'm going to feed the stag a bucket of cod...makes him call better.

Totally agree with No6, its not the first time this paper has gotten a bit carried away with itself! Talk about dodgy writing and half stories....

Yes exactly. If proper stalkers who dont happen to be in this golden circle cant get act together soon enough some of the finest red stalking (& world record trophys) in europe will be closed off to all but the highest paying forigners and the clicque. A healthy dose of balanced reporting would help too.

"the two deer managers" can anyone shed some light on what that is about or did i miss something

cant name names ,as i got into trouble about this before .
but a high up member of one of the deer groups is shouting for deer control in one part of the country and has 30k acres tied up in another .

i have no problem with him managing his deer and having world class trophys as the only way they become world class is by leaving young animals to mature .

some thing 95% of deer shooters is ireland could learn from .

he has the neck to stand up at meetings and go on to tv and radio and criticize other hunters about the country about not shooting enough deer .

the facts are deer are worth money private ,coillte and farm land is making big money for stalking .

now they have a list of buddy's given to the IFA for culling deer .
so if your not in a deer group now the ifa will not talk to you about deer control ,iv tried ...im not in any deer group.

Jasus thought that had died out, good to see it is still practiced,if we got some of the younger generation hunters learning that skill the world would be a better place, good on ya for mentioning it
