Kings Inns Diploma Exams - Juris and Admin

Has anyone sat the Juris and Admin for Kings Inns Diploma in previous years? I am looking to do the entrance exams this year and am missing these two subjects from my degree so need to take the diploma exams. Having looked through the syllabus for both, there seems to be an awful lot to cover. The manual from Kings Inns is pretty lightweight for Admin and I do not have much time to do any outside research. Any advice from those who have taken the course and attended tutorials? I, obviously have not attended the course so am studying solo without lectures. It's hard!!

    Thanks
    Ruby

Ruby was your degree one from the approved list or was it from elsewhere? Only i have a postgraduate degree from DIT and have been told that i must do the diploma notwithstanding the fact that i have completed the required subjects except admin and juris? I know this doesn't answer your question but would really appreciate it if u could help1

    thanks

Hi jpwicklow. That's an awful pain if you have to do the whole diploma even though you have done the postgrad in DIT! I have a law degree from UCC so only have to sit the two subjects I am missing..juris and admin. Why I didn't do these as an undergraduate I'll never know! Do you know that Kings Inns have an open day coming up soon? It's the 19th March I think. It might be worth your while going there and talking to a few people and they may be able to advise you on your options (though it may be the case that they just re-state the fact that you have to do the Diploma). It's quite a long haul as it is without having those extra two years to do. I'm planning on doing the part time course (which is every second year) cos I'm working full time (hence the panic over the above two subjects as it's quite difficult to motivate myself to study after a long day in the office!).

Hi Ruby thanks for the reply, i fully intend to go and have a chat during the open evening but i think you have hit the nail on the head in saying they will prob just restate what has been said to me already. funny enough i did my undergrad in UCC in European Studies...ya sure would miss that place!!!!!

Did you get the big booklet of material for Juris? If so, know that inside out and you'll be fine - the lecturer likes to have his own thoughts mirrored in your paper so you don't need to find any external material (I got 80% in it on that basis). I didn't do admin, so no help for you on that I'm afraid.

Oh thanks for that Impr0v! Juris is actually the one I am most worried about as I don't really have time to read any external material and there seems to be alot of it. I received the Juris manual and there seems to be a lot of quotes etc in that anyway so was planning on just learning that as best I can. If I got 80% I'd be over the moon! Well done. the worrying thing was that I read the examiners reports and he spoke of failing people and being able to recognise those who didn't attend lectures etc. Anyway..think I'll just get on with it instead of worrying about it!

Hey Ruby - hope the exams go well for you. Quick question (or 4!) if you don't mind me piggybacking on your thread (:D) ??

I too have a law degree without having study Juris or admin - basically I'm just wondering when are the diploma exams held, how do you apply to just sit the exams (or is it a case of enrolling for the diploma and simply not showing up to lectures?!) and are they extortionately priced :p ?

I'd appreciate any info you could give me.

    Go here for details: www.kingsinns.ie

If your law degree is recognised and is not stale in terms of time and Irish subjects you will only have to sit the subjects required as prerequisites for the BL degree course entrance examination.

    It's not overpriced.

HI Abstar.. as Tom said check out the website. It's very good or send them an email. I found them to be v helpful. What I did myself was send in the form which is on the website and paid the fees through the website too which is handy. The admin and Juris I'm sitting this year are in May. You can just sign up to do the exams so you don't pay for attending diploma lectures etc. (though i think you can do that if you want but check the website to be sure!). They send you out a big manual for juris and then you can buy the admin manual. So all in all not too difficult to sign up for but as far as I know you had to sign up in Feb. It would be worth emailing them for more info! Good luck!
