looking for new car (vague requirements...)

    hi, was rearended last week in my old starlet.
    insurance reckon it will be a write off as the book value is quite low.
    expecting a cheque for around 500eu for it.
    id be happy to hang onto it, but we had planned to get a different car soon anyway.

    the starlet is an auto due to my wrist problems, but we've decide to go for a manual in order for the OH to learn to drive.

    we reckon we've a budget of 3.5k plus whatever the write off gives us.
    we would be looking for a 4 door car with a reasonable boot.
    im driving an 09 leon atm on insurance and quite like the size and feel of it if that helps...
    engine size / power i would be looking for 1.6/1.8 (i think)

    basically im looking for a few general suggestions for cars or, if your feeling generous, some carzone links to something i should consider.

    sorry for the quite useless post, i drove bikes all my life till a car stopped me one day. the only car ive ever owned is the starlet so im not very clued up on ranges / prices / whats good etc
