my friend has been looking at a car in a car dealer in dublin, we are from galway and he is very interesed in buying this car, problem is the tax has run out on it and if he buys it i will be driving it down from dublin with permission from my insurance company, the problem is if i get stopped by a guard and the tax disk is not there/out of date by 2 months is there anything i can say etc?
is there any laws on this? or is the dealer meant to have tax in it...

There will be no problem with it. Explain to the guard that the car has only been bought if you get stopped. You won't be able to tax it til you have recieved the new log book. Keep a copy of the receipt in the car aswell to prove it was only just bought

Yeah you should have no probs....

IIRC, some dealers give a stamped declaration slip you can pop into the tax holder until things are sorted.

    Also.....
Might be no harm to to ask the dealer to tax it ;)

Should not be an issue. Just make sure you have the purchase receipt with you and it is stamped by the garage and has their letter heading on it.
