    hi,

this morning my car wouldnt start, the engine was turning over but no joy. so i called someone i know and he advised me to turn the key on/off three times then take the key back out, put it in and try it again...it started!!

he said this is how to reset the computer (a reboot if you will). my question is should i get his looked into? he said it happens from time to time and is no biggie?! its a 05 model

Id get it looked into for sure. There is surely some reason for it.

Hmm, wonder does that routine reset the engine management system too?

That routine will only reprogram the central locking from the key if the car has forgotten the key's identity. The immobiliser should work fine with the key in the ignition even if the central locking isn't working, and there's no amount of button tapping will correct it if it doesn't.

Best thing to do is get the car into someone who can properly diagnose it. It could be something as simple as a fuel pump.

if it only resets the central locking, does that mean the problem is to do with the central locking, if it was the fuel pump for example how did that procedure fix it?

    No idea to be honest!

The central locking has nothing to do with the engine systems. There are 3 things an engine needs to run, air, fuel, and a spark. It's most likely getting air, but it may not be getting fuel, or the spark plugs may not be igniting.

If you get the car into a mechanic who can diagnose it, he'll tell you if the fuel pump is gone, if the fuel injectors in each cylinder are okay or not, and if the coil packs that deliver the current to the spark plugs are okay or need replacing.

ok cheers, its happened twice in the last week, only 23k on the clock! might be best to get it looked at so.
