How to approach big Liqueur companies

Hi There. Thanks for stopping by. I have, I think, a very good new promotional angle and product for companies like Smirnoff, or any of the big vodka and rum companies. I try to contact most of them but you cant get past the inquiry in the contact section. I tried to call a couple of the marketing people but its like you want to talk to the president. Also most marketing is outsourced but only what is approved by the respective company. So all you get is the merry go round. Any idea how to professionally approach this or perhaps a contact lead, please. Cheers Oliver

How about sending a letter along with either a nice gift or a sample of whatever it is you are offering?

I had the exact same problem with large multi-national pharma outfits and also as you said a big liquor company. One large Cider producer in Ireland even had a purchaser who informed me "His job was gone in six months so why would he care about saving the company money?". Ridiculous attitude to business which is whats responsible for the state of this celtic mouse.

Anyhow enough of the rant: sorry mods.

as another poster suggested earlier I started to post out a tricky little gift (wont say what) but it has added value for the prospect and it makes them laugh and they are so intrigued they want to talk to me to see what kind of person I am. Some have even told me its been a topic of discussion at the montly meeting. best part is its only costing €2.52 per unit so I can mass prospect and send 100 per week.

You just need to find whats right for you to send. Just has to have added value and influences the prospects attitude towards talking to you.

All big companies like this have an agency that looks after this sort of thing, if you find out the agency you can give them a call and ask them,

Look up iapi.ie and members list they will have some big clients listed, possibly what ur looking for. its the media specialist section at the bottom

If you go to an agency (with any bright idea) you might as well be p1ss1ng up a down pipe - they are useless and you can nearly be sure the client won't see it.

Go direct to the companies, get to the brand managers of the particular brand you want to target and send them a decent proposal (hard copy I would suggest)

Secondly, if its a good idea (not that it wouldn't be Yell!) I would send a sealed copy of that same proposal to a friend or accountant/solicitor by registered post before you send it to anyone. They leave it unopened.

If the company decide to 'borrow' your idea, you can tip off to court for the compensation with that as 'proof' that you had the original idea - when the judge open the envelope. Even if its not legally ironclad, no brand want to be seen robbing peoples ideas (so blatantly).
