I just took my 00 Corolla through a carwash and the aerial snapped off. :( I had a look before to see if it srewed off or anything and thought it would be grand. Unfortunately not :(

I picked up the bit broken off anyway and it looks like a fairly clean break- though it looks like its made up of some kind of white stuff inside. Will it be any use to masking tape this back on- or do I need to get a new one?

Is it a big/ expensive job?

    Thanks :)

Is it the type that retracts back into itself? If it is then it is possible that it is one whole unit that incorporates the cable to the radio. I had to do this on an old civic before. The radio must be removed and the ariel disconnected. Tie a string to the end of the cable and draw the cable out from the car from the outside. When the string comes out tie the end of the new cable/ariel to it and pull the string from inside the car until it reaches the radio. Again, this was on a civic so I'm just thinking that most jap cars could be the same. Anyway, hope it helps a bit

Same thing happened to my brother with his 2002 Avensis about a month ago. His was just the screw on type, I think all Toyotas are the same . Cost 11 Euro at his local Toyota dealer in Mayo.

I personally never use those car washes the get more paint and aerials off cars that dirt. Get yourself a bucket and sponge far cheaper and far better job.

I think the 2002 Corolla had the bee sting type roof aeriel like this:

Get a price from a Toyota dealer first, you might also be able to get an aftermarket one or a second hand one from a scrap yard.

Just noticed it's a 00 reg Corolla not 02 so the aerial is slightly different.

First thing I did when I changed my car recently was to invest in a car wash brush. About 6 Euros and worth every penny. Car is washed/rinsed in 5 minuts. Cheaper and far kinder to the environment.

Rocky7 those car wash brushes are one of the worst things you can touch your car with, not that a car wash is much better.

Bit late now I know, but if anyone is putting their through a wash and their aerial is stuck/ can't be removed before the wash you can raise the top brush as it comes down the car.

On the control panel where you put your code in there (normally) is three buttons on the left side of the panel housing.

If you wait until the top brush is about a foot from your aerial and then push and hold the top button the top brush will raise up and clear the aerial completely. If you then take your finger off the button it will lower itself down again on the far side.

    :)
