UPC in developments wired for other providers

My apartment development, in Dublin, is wired for Smart Telecom only (alas) but last week we received a flier from UPC about their TV services. Their website confirms that the service is available at our address. Someone who rang them (and got through without waiting for an age, like I did) was told they could install it but there would be a small aerial to go outside. I can't see any reference to this setup on their site, and anyone I know who has UPC has it piped, without a dish.

So I was just wondering if anyone could confirm this setup works, rather than spending even longer on the phone waiting to talk to someone...

Its a different type of setup(MMDS) you will need a dish if your area is not cabled.

Yes, this is Multipoint Microwave Distribution System, or Multilink to use the old brand name for the service in NTL regions. You get a small mesh aerial, a bit like a satellite dish. There are some important differences between this service and the NTL cable service, (1) You have no analogue service, so you need a box for each TV you have (2) There are a lot less channels.

Thanks for the info; the fact that there is an external aerial should be a show stopper for people because the managing agent goes round from time to time taking down satellite dishes from balconies, and I suspect they would do the same with these. It's gas how little information there is on UPC's site about this service, and no list of channels.
