Ok, I'm a bit of a gangster genre nut. :p Have loads of books and dvd's on the whole subject..
I'm more interested in the Italian/Jewish/Irish American gangs and am trying to complete my dvd collection..

This is my DVD collection so far:

    The Godfather Trilogy
    Mean Streets
    Goodfellas
    Casino
    Donnie Brasco
    On The Waterfront
Once Upon a Time in America
    Bugsy
    Scarface (1932 version & 1983 version)
    True Romance
    Find me Guilty
    Carlitos Way
    Road to Perdition
    Smokin Aces
    Nitti The Enforcer
    The St. Valentines Day Masacre
    Raging Bull
    Gotti
    A Bronx Tale
    Gangs of New York
    The Valachi Papers
    The Cotton Club
    LA Confidential
    Excellent Cadavers
    CopLand
    The King of New York
    The Roaring twenties
    Angles with Dirty Faces
    The Public Enemy
    The complete Sopranos series
    The Real Godfathers

Wanting to get Little Ceasar, The Departed, Witness to the mob & Boss of Bosses ( can't find the last two anywhere)

Anyone out there able to suggest any other films that may interest me?

    Thanks,
    Jaz

Have you seen Miller's Crossing? I'd heartily recommend it.

I might suggest branching out into some foreign films, there's some terrific gangster films out there.

Gomorra (Gomorrah?) is supposed to be very good

^ What he said. Gomorra is a terrific Italian film based around organised crime groups in Naples. Possibly my favourite film of last year.

    State of Grace

    What Karl said.

Try the Infernal Affairs Trilogy. IMO much better than the Departed. Eric Tsang's Sam was a much more charismatic and, at times, terrifying gangster than Nicholson's (And don't even get me started on Anthony Wong's Chief Inspector Wong/ Sheen-Whalburg)

Since you have Raging Bull in there I'm going to recommend Robert Wise's "The Set-Up". It's about a washed-up boxer scheduled to lose his final fight at the bequest of the mob. One noteworthy element of the movie is that it is set in 'real time'. At seventy odd minutes long this is the same amount of time that passes during the story (a trick used most notibly in High-Noon, tho this film came before that).

Just watched it there, good film but I was watching it in Italian, which I speak, but some of the accents are very strong so I was a little lost at times.

For anyone who enjoyed Gomorra, I'd recommend Romanzo Criminale. It's set in Rome and follows a street gang's rise through the ranks of the criminal underworld, an excellent film.

These films don't have the style of American gangster films though, so if its something along the line of Goodfellas you're expecting, you might be a bit disappointed.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.. Forgot about Millers Crossing..

State of Grace looks decent enough, plus its got an excellent cast.. Sean Penn, Gary Oldman, John C. Reilly to name a few... Can't go wrong with that

Have seen Infernal Affairs 1 & 2.. Never got round to seeing the 3rd one though.. Does it add much to the overall story? And I'd agree the first one is way better than The Departed..

Just looked at a trailer for Gomorrah and it looks pretty good..

Oh God yeah, it does. It is set
in two different times: Six months before end of first and six months after as far as I can recall
    and is about
another detective investigating Andy Lau's character: (The Triad in the cops. Ming was it?.

I would rate the trilogy 1-3-2 in order of preferance but 1 and 3 come pretty damn close...... Must watch them again

Pulp Fiction is not there or I'm going blind. I wiped my eyes twice to make sure.

And that other tv show from years back, Wiseguy.

I can't stress enough how much you need to get City of God in that collection, amazing movie.

Also, while not really a typical gangster movie you should get The Sting.

Just thought of Eastern Promises and Sexy Beast. Both British gangster films but both excellent.

I don't really consider Pulp Fiction a ganster movie... Thats not to say I don't like the film caus I do..

And as for the Untouchables, talk about completely ripping the balls out the truth.. They were so far wide of the mark its sickining..

    Agree with previous posters
    Millers Crossing is simply class.
State of Grace you have to have for the Irish American Italian connection.
The Untouchables -assume you have but forgot to list.
Prizzi's Honour -comedy but covers the same area.
If LA confidential qualifies then I think Heat, The French Connection, Seprico and the excellent Leon could make the list.
Surprised no one mentioned the HBO series the Wire, McNulty is the Irish American cop to perfection, excellent stuff.
