Never thought I'd say it but I'm looking in Halford's at the Boardman range

I've also been flirting with the idea of buying a bike in this price range. What do people think of the Boardman bikes?

+1 Definitely. A friend of mind bought the Boardman full carbon, with SRAM Rival groupset. And this is his upgrade from a Giant Alliance 1 with full 105 groupset. He said it's the best money he has spent on a bike.

And we are going to see alot more of them next year. I have a feeling they will be sponsoring the new British Cycling Team.

They seem pretty good alright. Obviously you can kiss goodbye to any decent LBS service (sorry Halfords, I would trust you to fit a car stereo and thats about it) but I think one of the GB female riders was on a Boardman in the olympics, I think I saw something on Bikeradar a few months ago.

Nicole Cooke won her Gold medal on a Boardman.

Yes I have been thinking about these as well, went to halfords to get a price in Euro about 250 more expensive than the sterling price taking into account the exchange rate difference. So I wouldn't be buying in Ireland

If any one is looking for an 08 model halfords in Carrick mines Retail Park has some good deals - would buy myself but the frame is too small €800 of the top end bike frame 55.5, nice looking, would have purchased blorg machine but too late out of the blocks for that one.

I think the Boardman is nice looking. I like the simple uncomplicated look. However, the one linked is 9 speed. Now, there is nothing wrong with that, I have 9 speed on my training bike, but I would expect that 9 speed is going to find itself going the way of 8 speed. I.e. hard to find parts. If you look on CRC they only have 2 different 8 speed cassettes and not much choice on range. Wiggle a few more. ProBikeKit 2. If getting a new bike, I'd be looking for 10 speed. Maybe I'm being overly "future proof" as there is plenty of 9 speed still out there. Just a thought.
