Does the press help unsigned musicians and could they write much more than a one line mention or even check out a live gig now and then? i understand the public must know about the new and up coming acts and would this be a good read but are the press helping at all.

as someone who used to do the PR in an unsigned band, ive found that if you have a decent mailing list and if you go out of your way to contact local press (forget national unless you are abotu to release something) then you can get just as much press as anyone. No paper goes out looking for bands to write about - the bands send the info to the paper. if the band isnt doing that then they will get no press.

plus there's a plethora of sites willing to put news of your gigs up too

contacting any of the following sites could get some extra shameless promotion

    thumped
    drop-d
    goldenplec
    state
    analogue
    kilkennymusic
    nialler9

Always worth posting to forums or submitting to sites like these
