    Hey all,

right i'm a guy 24 and looking to start playing a sport, i'm 6 foot but my fitness is embarrassing as is my belly! I played hurling, football and Soccer at a high enough level, and was a good rugby player but just can't get back into them through injury. I'd like to play another sport, it can be contact but something to get my fitness up any ideas?

Basketball? Great for fitness and socialising.

Also spinning (even though not a sport) is a great way to get fit fast and get rid of the belly

I'd suggest taking up 2 to complement each other. Running is fantastic for weight loss and fitness - join a club and it becomes very social too.
Golf is good for social also.
Swimming is good as cross training for both.
    Racquetball or indoor climbing also..
and Kickboxing would be a great all rounder also.

Or you could do any of the above and get into tag rugby this summer for fun/cross training so you wouldn't feel it was a big effort and would be more "fun" orientated than regular rugby..
Let us know what you do anyway.

    Cheers folks,

I probably should have added, i can't really play something to phyisical I have very bad shoulders, (I broke both Collarbones, cracked my left shoulder bone and fractured my right arm in a bad accidnet playin olympic handball a few years back so rowing and basketball is out! I play a bit of golf (14 handicap) but arms even get tired after a full round.

I was thinking of Tag too, and squash would be a good game.

YOU DID ALL THAT DAMAGE PLAYING OLYMPIC HANDBALL:eek::eek: and you used to play hurling and rugby....

Holy Molley, where were you playing? it in the middle of a herd of elephants?

they must have changed the rules since I was about...

Aside from all that I'd ask your physio for suggestions, ya really dont want to do more damage by picking the wrong sport.
