First of all, he's played sevens for Australia so NO HE CAN'T. :D

Just wondering if there's any more new on the contract tug-of war.

AFAIK London Irish have his signature on a contract starting next season. After he signed it, he had further talks with Munster and now wants to stay.

All I can think is that it's a real lose-lose situation for London Irish.

Either you let it go and allow yourselves to be walked all over or you fight it and possibly end up with a player who doesn't want to be there. Also if the fight is protracted they won't know whether to sign someone else or not.

What people reckon - some compensation and call it even?

Yeah compensation is the way to go alright. One things for sure though, neither side is going to back down. It's in a situation like this though that a players wishes should be the deciding factor in my opinion.

Fair enough he signed a contract, but if he decides it was a mistake and doesn't want to play for a team, then it's hardly worth forcing the jersey onto his back.

Last I heard the diretor of LI had said that a contract was signed and he fully expects it to be honoured (think it's linked in previous thread on this) so it will go to court. But I'd fully expect Munster will walk away with the player and LI will look for a settlement. How much? Who knows, but it could be an expense mistake, but nothing Munster can't absorb.

He's a quality player. Don't know why they let it come to this in the first place.

That's what I'm wondering most - surely they knew he was in talks with London Irish?

Think it was someone taking Warwick for granted (i.e., his wife is from Cork so she won't want to leave Cork :D )

I'd say it will be sorted quietly. Warwick will remain in Munster. Too many Munster connections between LI & Munster (Keith Wood is a director of LI and the major shareholder is one of the Ryans of RyanAir who are actually from Killaloe which is in Munster) :D

Silvermines I thought, not Killaloe. At least that is where Tony Ryan had a very large property.

Munster are just going to end up having to pay Irish compensation to keep him, they've signed Chris Malone since so that seems to indicate he wont be going.

I thought it was on the Lake myself - Anyway, Tony Ryan RIP, the father is from Tipperary and so there is a strong Munster connection anyway between the Ryan family & Keith Wood.

Well if they were watching 'Quinns at the weekend they might change their minds. Malone was awful!

Wonder how much he'll turn out to be worth.

I'm assuming Munster will basically end up paying the equivalent of a transfer fee for him.

Ah, this mix up was explained in the Sunday papers.

AFAIK the IRFU were changing the foreign player quota from 5 down to 4 so Munster saw Warwick as the one that had to go. Warwick had a chat with London Irish and then the IRFU repealed the change and said that it could stay at five so there was room for him again. FWIW, it's apparently all been sorted now between Munster and London Irish.

I think London Irish signed the no.10 Chris Malone from Harlequins a few weeks back just after the commotion of Paul Warwick died down a bit. LD were looking for someone to replace Mike Catt but they already have Hewett and Gerethy who are both place kickers already.

So the latest I heard was that Paul Warwick was staying with Munster, and that LD have quietly backed off but will be looking for compensation.

as the guy has been quite ill for most of the season why not give him the benifit of the doubt. i.m.o. if he is of the standard that you make him out to be, he would be jettisoned some time ago

Malone won't be starting for Quins next weekend. Nick Evans will.

I read somewhere that should the 7's get into the olymipics they are to relax the laws re International status and allow players move to 'other' nations this would then potentially make Warick an Irish option?

    Where did you read that??
There is no need to change any rules on this and the IRB rulings on the matter will still preside regarding 'A' and 7s players. After all, why wouldn't they???
I'd be a tad more skeptical on media speculation if I were you.

    From Munster rugby website:

Munster and London Irish today announced that the issue over Paul Warwick has been resolved to the satisfaction of all parties and that Paul Warwick will be remaining next season at Munster Rugby.
Commenting Paul Warwick said, "I'm delighted the issue has been resolved and sincerely thank those involved for bringing the issue to an amicable resolution".
Graham Walpole, Chief Executive of London Irish commented, "We accepted the personal reasons that Paul gave for changing his mind following the signing of his contract with London Irish, however it was important to us to take a strong stance on this issue and to arrive at a fair resolution. We have always enjoyed an excellent relationship with Munster Rugby and, with this matter now out of the way, we look forward to building further on this relationship now and in the future."

 Doubt it has any bearing on Malone moving to LI though
