    Hey guys,

due to my limited (growing slowly!) knowledge of cars I'd be interested in using the AA to check out possible cars for me.

Any info on them? Would you recommend them?

The amount that they charge is outrageous. Also, it is a very basic (albeit thoughre), inspection. They don't even test emissions...

Until recently, they had their prices up on their website, now they have taken the prices down, but are still charging around 400 Euro for an inspection as far as I know...

in all fairness for 400 euro the should run a history check, emissions, pressure on cylinders and look at suspension ETC...

What do they actually investigate so?

ohh they check everything, when i got mine done on my kia he even measured the thickness of the paint to make sure there wasnt any spraying done,

3 years ago, their prices for Pre-purchase examination ranged from €321.00 to €472.00, including VAT, depending of the make and engine size

it seems to be a fairly comprehensive inspection. Eric, did they miss out on anything with that car if ya don't mind me asking? What are the alternatives to using the AA? I don't really know any mechanics personally.

the only thing they missed is a slightly dodgy fuel injector, but even i didnt notice that till a -1 degree morning and enquiring on the internet about the odd sound my engine made for a minute, but its impossible to tell of that fault unless its a really cold morning and you first start it during the inspection

RAC do inspections too i think

Seems fairly good especially for imports where may not have viewed the car in advance.

thats a comprehensive inspection, was that done in the uk? , i got an aa report done on an 06 2.2d x-trail here 2 wks ago and all i got was 7 pages of no fault found in each of the sections with no details of what was checked,

they wanted 450e for it, got it down to 350 as i brought it to the depo.

was gutted by the lack of information i got back.
