    whatever happened to Knoop?

either way it would be good to have Ross back playing for a province so he can show how good he really is.

Knoop was injured last I heard, serious enough if he's out this long.

Knoop is back playing, has featured for Leinster A and Terenure this season, Cheikia mustn't rate him.

I posted a while ago that he wasnt very good from what I saw but these guys seem to rate him so highly.
Maybe I should take a better look, any props in the house to give their opinion?

As far as tightheads go they are non existant but then cj would be off.

Knoop is decent, but made of glass...not a whole lot unlike CJ Van Der Linde.

Ross would be a superb signing, seeing as Stan Wright is probably on his way out and has had a very poor season, especially compared to last season.

Also it's important to keep the squad Irish imo, so if players are going to be signed for problem positions, I'd prefer if they're Irish.

The main thing is that if this goes ahead that it's a long term contract. I'd love to know the stats on how many props Leinster have fielded over the last 5 years compared to, let's say Munster. A settled pack is a massive asset, something Leinster have never had with it changing significantly year on year.

Jeez, soon Leinster will a full pack of Munster forwards to pick, and sure, aren't Sexton, Fitz and Heaslip more or less Munstermen too. Shocking days altogether.

Nah, would be great to see Ross back in Ireland and really challenging for a Irish spot.

:p There's not one Munster player in the Leinster pack. Fogarty & Keogh in the squad alright. Sure Doug Howlett grew up in Finglas, so what are ya on about?

Sure didn't Heaslip's dad play with Shannon back in the day, salt of the earth, salt of the earth. Just cause Howlett thrashes cars doesn't mean he's a Dubliner.

He's been out for over a year, maybe he's just getting back to match fitness. He was named in the extended squads for the first time in a long time at least.

Would like to see Ross at Leinster - we could very well field a competitive all Irish pack in that situation.

i saw knoop play for the gick the same day Leinster played Edinburgh in HC

So this is when the Mike Ross for Ireland bandwagon starts. Also, why would Leinster want to sign some useless 30 year old who couldnt even hack it at Munster? Egg on face really.

    Well he's in the squad...

He's an Irish prop playing regularly - rare enough. Means there's space for another foreigner for Leinster.

I hate this phrase because it makes it look like I'm trying to get people to think I'm in the know when I really haven't got a ****ing clue but:

Have it on a decent source that Leinster have made Ross an offer and he's considering it very seriously.

Not bulletproof by any means, but it seems the rumour has legs anyway, it's not just made up.

As for whoever called him useless - I'm guessing you haven't seen him play very much. As for him being 30, so what?

I know I started a thread here some time ago about why I wonder why Mike Ross is so under the radar but just watching the bath harlequins game at the moment and further believe he could be the answer to some of our problems , to drive a big pack like bath back at scrumtime for a penalty try is some achievement, getting more and more impressed he is dominating the scrum, and offering a nice bit in the loose as well would be some addition for leinster/irish team if he come s back and was put into the central contracing system.

He should be Ireland's tight head prop for the next 6N onto the world cup. Absolutely fantastic scrummager and himself and Jones are destroying a very good Bath scrum.

Agree, he's one of the major reasons behind Harlequins great success this season...hope he stays with Quins, a brilliant pack in the most hard scrummaging league in the world, no better place to ply his trade and hone his skills...he'll soon be seen in a 1st XV green jersey, reckon he's also going to scourge the Leinster scrum in the HEC...

Playing superbly (again) today against Bath (bloody good performance from the Quins), reckon we may see them in the Heineken final.

really impressive game , started a thread on ross at the end of february couldn't get over the negative reaction, mod had to step in due to some of the stuff being thrown at him "fat" "crap" " he is a muppet" etc, gotta say this guy has a big future ahead of him in the irish jersey.

    Things in his favour:

    1. He's one of the best 3 Irish props playing rugby at the moment. I'd leave it up for discussion what ranking he takes.

    Things against him:

    1. He plays in the GP.

    2. Doesn't seem that Kidney (maybe Gert Smal?) fancies him too much having called him into the extended 6 Nations squad and then discarding him to the A team.

    3. He doesn't play for Munster. Not a smart comment from a Leinster fan but acknowledgement that the coninuity that is created by the Munster front row playing en masse for Ireland is an undeniable an advantage to Ireland in many ways.

Looks a real player at GP level though. Deserves a chance as he certainly seems a better rugby player than Tom Court.

He has a brilliant chance next week and in the following HEC game to make Irish people and selectors stand up and take notice of him.

I didn't ignore it, it just didn't stand out to me as much as the other one.

I'm not saying he was wrong, it's just interesting noticing fans changing opinions of players. Another example could be Borlase turning into a Munster/Ireland legend for years to come, I'm sure there'll be some funny opinions to look back on then! Not least George Hook's

    More examples :
Mafi is one of the best centres in the world...
Keith Earls/Luke Fitzgerald will be the next Brian O'Driscoll.....
Tony Buckley will be a world class prop
Andrew Conway will break into Leinster team and be starting for World Cup
