I have always got the impression that America really isn't into the whole gig of online message boards as us and Britain and all. When you search U.S message boards, you'll have a hard time looking for them.
Is it a case of them using social networking more, or are there indeed a wide variety of U.S forums out there, and I amn't searching properly?

I know of one, but it's a private forum.
About 6 brits, a few Canadians, a Swede, A Finn and me. Mostly Americans though and mostly American centred topics.

I have found that there are a huge number of special interest forums and forums specific to a particular locality, University etc, but very few "general" foruns like boards.ie

America's too big for such a forum.

While the country itself is obviously too big, surely on a state by state basis.

For example NY ( Granted even still it would be massive)

In any case, I have also experienced that are far more special interest forums there alright.

All English language message boards on the internet are American unless stated otherwise*, they are much more into it then us imho

*this is surely true in at least 90% of cases

46% of stats are made up on the spot. The other 70% are mostly exaggerated.

Ever heard of a little old forum on a website called SomethingAwful.com?

There are thousands of massive US message boards like this.

I think this one about hits it on the head. The 'special interest' fora are frequently the size of Boards.ie if not bigger. AR15.com, for example, set up to support users/owners of just one particular type of rifle, currently has 4,500 users online (as I open up another window), which is a full thousand more than Boards.ie right now, which is arguably the largest board in Ireland and covers most anything.

Large-area fora like Craigslist Bay Area are hard enough to keep track of. Can you imagine a national one?

The only thing I use Craigslist for is to daydream about hiring a local hooker. Cant say I would ever go into what they call a "forum"... its a mess, and runs on the really, really, really old software.

It is part of boards.ie ltd. but doesn't get any traffic. The only people who really know about it already post here, and from here, boards.us is a hard sell.
