Treadmill 'in da house'

Has anyone got a treadmill in their house ? I went out for a run this morning, just 5 miles and I barely made it beyond rush hour traffic (live in the city centre). Also nervous of growing shin pain and doing all my running on roads / paths. A treadmill in the apt would be very handy for a run or two a week. Just wondering what kind of outlay you might be talking about for something decent ? Cycling to the gym to use theirs would kind of defeat the purpose of saving time, travel.

Yeah, I got one. Spent around 800 euro on it. Got it through the vhi healthshop portal. Same treadmills were on sale similar prices through Elverys. Its serves its purposes on the dark, miserable weather days. I paid an extra few quid at the time for a model that would go faster than I needed to on the majority of my runs. It tops out at 16kph which is great. Not sure it would be fit for purpose for an apartment? If you had neighbours downstairs they mightn't appreciate it :) The OH hates its presence in the house though. Its moved location in the downstairs rooms a few times. I reckon its next place will be out in the shed!

I've got one. I bought a Pro Form 450 from Elverys. I'd only gone in for some shorts but they'd just discounted the ex-demo treadmill down from €1100 to €250 so I just couldn't leave it behind.

I've found it useful over the winter as I've often used it for a 10k in the evenings when I wouldn't have gone out.

It's like slogger said though, the wife hates it and it's noisy if you're in the room below it. You also need to leave the windows open to get some air in (and get the sweat out).

All in all though, I'm very pleased with it.

Final point - set up a shelf infront of it that you can put a portable DVD player on. I've got through Series 1-3 of The Sopranos so far.

TBH and not meaning to sound frank - I'd pay a fraction of the money for a few physio sessions to sort out your shin problem and get you back on the road - much much more enjoyable !

A treadmill could be very handy but I would be afraid Id get to lazy and end up doing all my running on it:rolleyes:

I mean if your coming in from a 9 hour work day or waking up at 6 to go for a run its a lot easier to jump on the machine a few feet from your bed than make the effort and go out in the cold.:D

    but it's so boring!
I actually prefer the cold to the heat, the only treadmills I have used is on holidays when it is more than 25degrees outside.

hi Rusty Cogs 08 - I bought a treadmill about a year ago and my boyfriend though i was gone nuts and that it would never get used. but he has had to eat his words because not only do i use it when i cant get out on the road especially this time of year because i live out in the sticks and its impossible to run on the dark roads but he has started using it himself and loves it...... he isnt really into running but is using it to get rid of his newly aquired gut and its working a treat for him, i wouldnt be surprised if he actually heads out on the road soon. It cost me about €800 i bought it in elveries and i find it brilliant. I do have to agree with some of the others though it can be loud. Im delighted with mine though and can keep up with the soaps while i run lol

You could get a decent enough one for around 600 euro
