the laser is about 1 inch under the barrel of my airsoft gun

do i set up the dot to always be 1 inch below where the barrel is pointing

or is there a way to set up the laser to point exactly at the impact point ?

not sure but wouldent the aim point change over distance if you sight it to the impact point?

you should set the desired range you want the laser to be zeroed in on but really form my experience they are really only good for pointers or giving away your position :p

Best thing to do is to get it set perfectly parallel with the barrel. If you zero it to the barrel you have to choose a focal length at which the point of impact and the laser impact are the same. Say you set that at 20 yards, if you're at 10 you'll have to aim high, and at 30 you'll have to aim low. If it's parallel with the barrel then you have a constant offset which you can compensate for if needs be. Realistically you'll only use it as a marker anyway, it's never going to be dead on accurate, no matter how long you spend setting it up.

    What he said /\

If ye can wedge the aeg somewhere solid so it doesnt move or if you set up a target you can see the impacts on it helps.

Zero the laser to the iron sights first to get a general aim point, then work from there with small adjustments, think in 8ths of turns, quarter turns etc. so you aren't randomly going back and forth with the adjustments.

Eventually you'll be set up reasonably well, but the aeg will never match the laser for accuracy.

A quick drawing of what you are looking at.
As the top drawing shows, the BB isn't going to move in a straight line, leaving the laser pointing straight ahead may not be the best idea, a good one, but I think there is a better one.
If you can see the trajectory of the BB and align your laser to point parallel to the BB as the hop-up backspin comes into effect you will have a nice area where your laser dot is always almost in the same position relative to the bb impact point.
    See the bottom drawing.
This area may only be <10-15 feet, but if you are using your pistol you are not sniping but defending yourself at close range. (Otherwise you'd be reloading your mags, right?)

as dex said, also its funny how it can keep some peoples heads down when they see one near them, ive seen a guy dive into a bush when i put the dot on his gun, wasnt even in range :D
