Anyone know a good indy volvo motor mechanic?

Trying to get a quote for a general service for a 05 S40 off the dealers is a joke.

Wont commit to a price even though I told them that "i just want the 3 filters and plugs changed", one of them even had the audacity to tell me that they could not quote me cause they "might find a leak in the steering column when i drop it in"..... wtf!!!!!

I thought they would have been glad of the business...

    Any help appreciated....

TBH I'd stear clear of the stealers. Try a well known independant garage in your area. Or even better is to get yourself a haynes manual and the filters etc and give it a go yourself, it's really not hard

    hi

as 8vjohn says grab yourself a Haynes manual and take your time, its so easy to change the oil, filters and plugs you'll kick yourself once you've done it once and realize how much money you are giving away .

I do all my own basic work on my Volvo's and only send to the dealer when absolutely necessary.

there's a good article in this months "Car Mechanics" magazine regarding DIY and the tools needed.

    gone on you'll be fine

    regards

Any mechanic/garage can service it for you but Advanced Pitstop would be absolutely fine to service it too, at least to service what you want done.

They DO use Castrol oils, Fram/Flamm/similar filters, and either Bosch, NGK or Champion plugs as appropriate. Book it in first so they get all the right parts in for the job.

Dibs, I recently had my S40 in with the dealer on the Naas Rd for a breakdown problem which they amazingly sorted out under warranty even though the car is over 3 years old, anyhow because I didn't have to spend the money on the breakdown I was able to get a few bits & pieces done,I did price the service but I didn't have the money, the dealer did however highlight what was important & not, so they did a basic lube service & checked the brakes & nothing more, the brake pads need replacing but as I didn,t have the money they said they where ok for appx 3-4000 kms & I suggested I come back then, they understood my financial problem.

How much didb they want for the service? I have been quoted 400 for air, oil and pollen filters and plugs. A bit excessive I think.....

seriously as said before, do it yourself, I do all my cars myself and it is not a duanting task at all, for the basic service,
grab the Hynes manual and it is easy to do...the manual is a great help for your first time.
you should be able to get all the filters, oil and plugs you need for a basic service for easily under €100 from your local motor factor, and give yourself around 2-3 hours for the first time you do it...

I think at the time I was quoted about 320 incl the vat. It was a bit more expensive than normal because the pollen filter hadn't been changed in nearly 40,000 kms which makes sense because the air con is crap at the moment . All the other bits & pieces (air filter & sparks) where needed due to the mileage. But I decided to just do the lube service.
I have decided to get the brakes done so I'm due in next Monday. I don't like fitting motor factor brakes because I find that they always squeel & I hate sqeeling brakes. The dealer had no problem pricing up the costs for me before I go in, so no surprises.
