E36 Convertible Roof Question

    Hey All,
Was wondering if any body had any experience with an e36 fully auto convertible?
Basically the red light started flashing for what appeared to be no good reason (the top hasn't been down for a good while now with the weather the way it is). So the button is unresponsive, I've been doing some research online and there could be a myriad of reasons as to why it is happening.

One of the main things that seems to happen is that one of the two motors has become disengaged and that by manually putting the roof down, re-engaging the motors and then going through the process of putting the roof up would fix the problem. Has anyone had experience going through that process and is it tricky at all?

Further to this, are there drains within the convertible storage compartment that allow rain water drain down off the roof via some gutters?

    Thanks for any help lads
