I have a Netgear wireless cable router WGT624. I need to access the settings, changed my password a while back but for the life of me I just can't remember it. I've tried the default name and password but it still refuses to accept me. Can anybody enlighten me as to what to do next? I'm a fairly basic user when it comes to computers.

if you can't remember the login details you'd need to factory default the router, there should be a reset button on the back of the modem get a pen & press that until the lights on the front flicker,

just make sure you have all the details to reconfigure it once it's been defaulted

Connection details from eircom or whoever your ISP is (if it's eircom it's easy, same settings for everyone).

Its a cable router so no need for the Eircom details most likely.

usually you need http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 to access the router itself the usual sign ins are admin and password.

Then it is up to you to set up your wirless network with ssid name and password - make sure that wpa is your security type.

If you wanted to get a little fancy, most routers let you save your configuration settings to a file.

Once you get everything set up right, you can save the config, then if you ever need to reset your router again, you can reset it and upload the config file.

I have used this, it's the correct one but it won't accept the default admin and password as I did change it a while back. So if I hit the reset button will it just take me back to how everything was before I had the router. Then I just start all over again as if the router was brand new out of the box? Sorry if I'm not coming across very well. Also I should use wpa and not wep as my security.

Hold down the reset button as suggested and it will reset to the original factory settings just like day 1.

When the device is reset the default username and password for WGT624 is:
    Username: admin
    Password: password
