Mechanic got me a timing belt kit and replaced all on my 04 A3, all done for approx. €200, is this expensive or a good deal !?

I have to get it done for my A4 later on this year and am bracing myself for somewhere in the region of €600. Mechanic said it would cost in that region

 Yours sounds a very low price.

Is that a dealer or private garage price there Heroditas?

Private garage. They charge €75 per hour for work.

I would be making sure that the water pump has been done also. If it has been, well done but if not that is recommended to be done with timing belt as they have a habit of breaking apart if left undone

€75 an hour for an Indy is a bit saucy.

    It is a little bit.
However, I'm very happy with the work they do.
They also do restoration work, crash repair, respraying etc on their premises so I guess that's why they charge those prices.

Is it a 1.4? Kits for the smaller engines can be surprisingly cheap. I've a mk4 golf gti and had the timing belt kit and pump done last month. Now the timing belt kit was 198euro and the water pump was 67euro. Labour was 120euro so I'd be asking your mechanic for a breakdown of what he did.

It would be a 1.6 petrol at a minimum with the A3 (bar the new 1.4T but thats hardly needing a new belt already). Sounds suspiciously cheap - If it all came to 200 euro including labour at 75 an hours, surely there has to be something amiss?

    The Audi A3 is a 1.9Tdi, 105bhp, belt was changed at approx. 80,000 miles..............should have been changed at 60,000 i think !!!

Its every 4 years or 60k miles on a lot of the VAG stuff

I've a 1.8T and was told a few weeks ago that 80,000 or 6 years is ok for them. Time for me to start saving for it.
