Swimming Card

    Hey, I'd like to say hi, as it's my first post here. :rolleyes:
    So, my question is :
    Do you have something like Swimming Cards in Ireland?
    In few other countries there is a test (usualy about 200m freestyle and 10m underwater) and you can get a swimming card.
    If there is something like this in Ireland, how can I do it?
    Do I have to be a member of some sort of swimming club, or I can just go to the pool few times and than take the test?

    (Sorry if there was such topic and I couln't find it.)

    Regards. ::)

    I never heard of something like this in Ireland. Is it like a grading system with increasing levels?

    I don't think there's anything like this. Is it some kind of precondition for club membership?

    Well, it's just a card, that tells people that you can swim. You sometimes need it to participate in swimming/boat contests or to swim in dangerous places. It's similar to (Scuba) Diving Licence.
    After you get your swimming card, you can upgrade it to "yellow" level (you just need to swim longer distance, about 400m) or even try taking a test for 'young lifeguard' (16years+).
    Well, thanks for answers. :)

    Ah I see. If you're interested you can do a water safety course. It's just a course teaching you to be a lifeguard you don't need it to swim in certain places or anything.
