Hair straighteners

    Hi all,

Managed to snap my lovely wide GHDs in what looks like a fairly irreparable manner :( Boyfriend has kindly offered me a 50E argos voucher he got as a reward at work, but I don't know what's good anymore - the GHDs lasted about six years! Can't really spend much though, at college and broke so sticking to a tight budget.

I've just read a great review on Beaut.ie of these Remington Shine Therapy ones - http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/4431307/Trail/searchtext%3ESTRAIGHTENER.htm
They're 59.99 at Argos. Anyone got any other advice?

I have always used a GHD but my friend has a Babyliss and it's not bad. When looking for one defo get a ceramic one and one that the temperature reaches 230c or more, I know some people will say its so bad for the hair but thats why the GHD works so well because it gets so hot.
    Hope this helps

I bought mine from my hairdresser but they cost £150. No that was not a misprint...i paid for them in punts! Had to get a broken wire repared in the lead, which if you know an electrician, is easily done.
I know they were expensive but definately worth it, Touching wood they stay working now!

thanks smares, I think the 230 degree heat is almost standard across any decent ones, as well as ceramic plates. will def make sure of that.

and ownknee, my GHDs were bought in summer 03, they were in fine fettle! Think its just the black casing that's snapped but one side of them's come unhinged so not sure of it's an electrician job :/ might be time to call it a day for them!

I use a Remington one (not sure what one exactly) I got in Boots about a year and a half ago for €40, and it's as good as a GHD imo, it even has a temperature setting on it if you don't want it to get too hot, and it goes up to 230 degrees. Definitely better value than a GHD!

There's a babyliss one that launched there last yr dont ask me the model name of it!! All I know is it's red, looked into all the reviews on it at xmas & it seems as good as the ghd if not better from what they said ( I didn't know himself had bought me a GHD... so I didn't need to buy the babyliss one)

You can pick up a Kodo one or MIkado (think thats how it's spelt) in a salon services for approx €110..
I had a Kodo one for 4 years & it was excellent.

+ 1 for Kodo, I had one as my very first straighteners and it was excellent!! But €110 is still a lot for a broke student!
There is a guy on ebay who repairs GHD's! I remember seeing it on here somewhere before!! If i remember correctly he refunds you if he can't repair them!! Might be worth looking into!! You could always use the argos voucher to buy something really cheap and get the change in cash and use that to pay for the repair!!
I broke my ghd too:( I did plan on looking into getting it fixed but my sister gave me one she had bought online 'SHE' from ebay and it's exactly the same as the GHD (Really!!) They use the same mould and everything so the shape is the exact same too! I don't know how much it was but might be worth looking into also!!
Don't know anything about the babyliss one though sorry!
