My tale of trying to get car insurance with chill.ie

My car insurance is due up shortly and I have been shopping around. I got a good online quote from chill.ie - almost €80 cheaper than my current insurer.

I rang them to get a few more details on the policy benefits and I was talking to a very helpful girl - she even reduced the premium by a further €20 making it €100 cheaper than my current premium. She also offered to email me the policy booklet so I could check the finer details.

When I had not got the email by the end of the day so I rang them again. I was promised that I would have it within 10 minutes. It didn't arrive. I tried again the following morning and was again promised that it would be emailed to me immediately. It never arrived.

I eventually found it myself on the Wrightway site and it seems like quite a good policy. I rang them last Friday evening to purchase the policy. For some reason they couldn't deal with me at that time and promised to ring back and take my payment details.

Needless to say, they have not telephoned me back for payment. I think its fair to say that its probably best not to deal with them at this stage. If they don't even want to take payment from me I would hate to deal with them if I was making a claim

I tried FBD - they were over €250 dearer than Chill - almost twice the price

I got another good quote from www.25plus.ie and almost bought from them also - until I read the fine print. The driving of other cars was included as follows:

If your Certificate permits you to drive a car that is:
    a) not owned by you, a member of your family..........

Thats a lot of use. I'm sure that most people need this because they may occasionally drive their parents/siblings cars.

I had no problems with them. I bought both car and home insurance from them and they were very attentive

I tried 25plus for a quote for my dad in december, I also putting my mum and me as named drivers but they wouldn't give a quote as i was considered unemployed, even though I had just returned from travelling and wasn't claiming benefits. Not a great way to gain market share during a recession!

So you hung up on him for him asking what date it finishes on? Wow, you're mature. What would you have done when he asked what day would you like it to start, kicked the wall? He has to ask, the other companies should too. Its to give you an accurate quote.
    Some people.:-o

All I can say is that the customer service is a shambles! I have had to phone them 3 times and on each occasion it has taken them over 5 hours to give me a call back. I wanted my policy number on one of the ocassions, something that would take maybe 45 seconds but it takes them 5 hours to get back to me, JOKERS!

I did a quick quote on chill and it was about €300. When I filled in my details it went up to €480. And this is with 9 yrs NCB, age 35+, on a 1.3L car!

Hey guys, Anyone get van insurance with Chill.ie and if so how did you find them?

Tried nononsense.ie (FBD) - they were meant to ring back and never did. They were cheapest that i found online, before talking to my own brokers (Goggins) and they blew everyone out of the water. Made a killing there!

insure.ie gives me the cheapest quote for myself (30) and the missus(25) on a 2010 Skoda Superb. Still don't know what Quinn will charge me to change. I'll find out in Jan I guess.

Have recently renewed my insurance, and went to all these places for quotes.

Eventually wound up with a small broker I heard about from a job interview I went for. They were €100 cheaper than 123.ie. And the service is next to none. I had to do a permanent sub recently, and she offered to have my new cert ready for collection in the hour. The fairly large broker I worked for before being let go could only get a cert within 3-4 days to a client!

Moral of the story, if there's a small brokerage in your local area, try them, you're bound to get a more attentive service. It might be just me, but I also like the idea of the commission from the policy going to a small guy :)

(and to clear things up, I'm still unemployed, and am not from the IBA :P)

I rang insuremyvan.ie last week for a quote, they seem reasonable and I will probably take a policy out with them next week.
Cheapest quote so far. Anyone here ever used them?

Yes, often going through the broker channel is cheaper believe it or not as opposed to going direct. There was a good article in the Irish Independent Your Money section a few weeks ago which we posted on our blog. http://tinyurl.com/ycetlyj

A number of years ago I was with One Direct (resold Hibernian) & Hibernian would not quote me the following year when heard ny current insurer was One Direct. I don't know if that is standard for other insurers.

I see FBD mentioned above. Been with them for few years & very good to deal with.

Hi, I tried to insure my wifes car with chill yesterday. Spoke to very friendly lady who took all my details and came back with a good quote.
I was willing to buy but when I ask for the policy details usually a booklet of T&C ( either by post or email), was told sorry company policy is money upfront and then was advised best thing would be to go and see if I can find any info on the policy from the actual insurance company on the web.
In the end had to say no go without the policy details. I have been buying car insurance by web, phone etc for 20+years and don't get this.
Anyone any ideas what this is about

chill insurance keeps you on hold for ages if you want to take a replacement car given by garage if your car is in the garage, also they charge 21 euros for each day. This is ridiculous amount.

I will never go with them . they charge you over the sly.
