Avira blocking USB

When I start my printer (HP 4485) or my Canon camera, which have been connected with USB, my PC locks. I have to reboot it and then it works fine.

I am using a Pentium Dual E2140, 1GHz and 2 Gb Memory. Vista Basic.
    Avira Antivirus free edition 8.

Am I correct in believing this problem is coursed by Avira? I suspect it is trying to scan the printer and camera for viruses. If so, how do I stop it?

I also have the problem that when I boot up my PC it takes for ever before the screen comes up. I did not have this problem when I used Bullgard which came with the PC.

    You can try disabling Avira.
Right click on the Avira icon on the bottom right hand side of the task bar and untick "AntiVir Guard enable".
Then see can you use your printer / camera.
Remember to turn it back on again! :)
