As alot of you maybe aware, Sky have dropped the cost of their HD box to €49. I rang up last week to order it, but was told I had to 'register' to be eligible. Registration would take place after I received an email/text. Upon receiving the email, it informed me that my order will be ready to complete in 6-8 weeks, but that I would be contacted if it is any sooner

Has anyone else encountered this? And if so, does the wait time eventually drop off?

Jeez I dunno, are you joining Sky for the first time? I ordered HD on Saturday afternoon and was told I could get it any time next week so I chose Thursday (13th).

Right, this is pissing me off after hearing the above.

We presently have a Sky World package, pay multiroom, and are looking to give Sky more money for another multiroom sub, as well as a HD sub, and the best they can come-up with is 4-8 weeks!!! Bollox to that, i'm giving them a call, with the faux threat that I will cancel the order if it can't be sooner.

    Cheers lads for the info.

Sorry to hear your unhappy charlie...but independant retailers can be generally quicker in doing installations than sky themselves...Sky are idiots anyway and sometimes can screw up an order like they did for me a week ago.

Yes order through independents instead of ordering through sky are quicker. Some people i know have been told at least 4 weeks by sky direct.

PERFECT! My 'old' subscription ends on the 21st, will just make sure I've signed up for the new deal to get it in time for the 21st! :D

why not wait til the €14.75 sub disappears?
not worth the extra spondoolicks imo.

I can't see that happening for a long time yet unfortunately! They might do what they did with Sky+ originally, make it "free" if you have the premium channels. If they did that, I'd be tempted then.

And I must agree, unless you have the premium channels it seems pointless at the moment... you don't even get BBC HD on the epg for example.

That is DEFINATELY NOT going to happen in the forseeable future, even when they used to charge for the PLUS facilities they never charged a seperate fee for each Multiroom, which is what they do with HD

So, why am I willing to sign up again?

For 49 Euro and 44.62 a month for 12 months (aafter which I will probably change my package) I will be getting a BRAND new HD box, a BRAND new standard Sky box, a new dish and Quad LNB, the basic package plus 2 add-ons, (half price) multiroom and a HD pack, defo worth it in my book :)

Can you order HD direct from an independant installer?

My independant installer said sky wont let him install sky+ that it would have to be the sky installers?

Yes you can as I myself do it...even upgrades for existing customers and its all going to be computerised so we can give you a installation date choice too.

Same here Danny :) Also, new customers and multi-room upgrades are done seven days from ordering and straight swap-outs with in three to five days normally.
