    Never heard of panic attacks.
Might have something to do with the body trying to fight off the depressant alcohol...
Maybe you should consult your GP, might have meds or some treatment so you can get back to not being a... "dry arse"...
    Ya dry arse! :pac:

they are more or less the same thing. I know what the OP is talking about. I had a spout of heavy panic attacks for 6 months a few years back. When i stopped getting them i had an unmerciful hangover and i felt another panic attack coming on.

Whats happening is that the OP is scared of getting a panic attack and now associates the hungover feeling with a panic attack. So when ever he gets hungover he feels like a panic attack is coming.

If you get a stomach type hangover, it can be a similar feeling to that of a panic attack, so i know where the OP is coming from.

OP, if you want to drink, do what i did.. Force panic attacks on yourself. (i know it sounds weird..). Why? So you can sit back, relax yourself and think.. "why am i panicing? What have i to be scared of?". Then come to terms with the fact you have nothing to worry about.

Its all mind over matter, if you dont mind - it doesnt matter!

thing is used to love drinking and being drunk with my friends QUOTE]

That just says it all there I think. You say you used to love drinking, you should go back to it.Try and find the source of your panic attacks, did you fear you did embaressing things?Figure these things out and take precautions to prevent these panic attacks(not drink so much) but why give up something you love?People seem to have the impression that drinking is bad, drinking is not bad but drinking so much that you dont remember what you did is bad news.I dont mean to sound patronising,I get these panic attacks when I drink too much.Thats just my advice.

just out of interest... was it the stomach illness that made you feel hung over?

if so, i know just what you need. Carbon.

Go get a bag of salted manhatten popcorn. When im about to get sick from the stomach hungoverness. I eat a bag (even tho i feel if i eat ill get sick) and litterally within 10 minutes of it, i feel 100% again. Defo give that a go, its the muts nuts!

Panic attacks are very common in heavy drinkers, particularly if they are already prone to anxiety and ar generally not taking care of themselves. Its happened to me, its happened to a friend of mine and it continues to happen to a girl I know. Its caused by the withdrawel of the alcohol's depressant effect on the brain leading to heightened neural and particularly anxiety responses. I've had to get off buses because of it, and more than once. The girl I know went to the doctor about it and he gave her beta blockers to prevent it from happening (because she refuses to stop drinking). You could be better off not drinking tho, panic is an aweful experience

I've also had increased panic/anxiety attacks since quitting drinking (I was a very heavy drinker). I read up alot of stuff on the internet on how to deal with them and they work to some effect but they can be overwhelming at times. A very good book is 'When Panic Attacks' which I got in my local library.

Something else that has happened occasionally since stopping drinking has been that I am having delusions - seeing things that are not there, hearing things, having conversations in my head with people who are not there. The Doctor said this is normal from years of heavy drinking and could still happen for months, but it really freaks me out. Anyone else had these experiences and found an effective way to deal with them as they really freak me out

I haven't had a drink for 4months for exactly this reason. There is a 'cure' of course. Though its not advisable and really only gets you into deeeeper pooo with panic attacks but in the short term its lovely: benzos. Take a xanax and hey presto panic gone, hangover gone. but like i said not really the best advice....

I get panic attacks if I smoke to much hash.
So I just drink twice as much instead.
Just make sure your well hydrated if your drinking.
