Just drove up from the town, the yellow engine light came on and it started chugging a bit. got home and took a look at it, noticed oil kind of spitting from the exhaust. anyone know what it could be?

Are you sure it's not just condensation with a bit of soot in it?

With a Warning light on the Dash? Check the oil filler cap see if there is any white or yellow gunge in there if so head gasket...

The condensation and the warning light may not be related, condensation is quite normal and soot in the exhaust system can colour it black. Condensation inside the engine can also leave 'mayonnaise' on the inside of the oil filler cap without there being any problem with the head gasket.

Emm, water wouldn't last long on the plugs unless it was getting in from somewhere? What exactly did the mehanic say?

Plonked my 03 fiesta through a flood at speed and had this problem too, water in the spark plug compartment and was a shudderey with the yellow engine light on until i dries it out with a air hose.

However at the next service, the mechanic who used to work for a Ford dealer tole me that it is a flaw in the new fiestas/focus design that a slight gap lets water in easily to the spark plug box. Some silicone fixed it up. Sure enough the inside of the spark plug case was covered in rusty residue.

At your next service worth giving it a mention.
