Has anybody gotten Twitter working on their Irish mobiles? and if so, how much does the text alerts they send cost on O2?

you can tweet to this number, 00447624801423, just set it up under your twitter account. Cost? Dunno, my job pays for it :D maybe send a tweet and see how much credit it used up.

This is what it tells me when I try to set up sending updates to my phone:

Note: We currently don't support sending SMSes to this number. You may still verify your phone and update Twitter, but we won't deliver to your phone.

Would it have anything to do with the fact that I have recently switched from Vodafone to O2, keeping the same mobile number?

no, it means twitter dont text to irish numbers anymore. you can still tweet via it by texting the number L31mr0d posted...

You could try out www.twe2.com. It's a free service (supported by ads) that lets European customers recieve SMS updates from Twitter.

I've no idea if it's any use. (I always just use mobile Twitter through my phone's internet). But a quick Google search doesn't unearth any complaints that they're a shower of rip-off merchants or anything.

Are you trying to use SMS or simply a mobile app?

    Set myself up on twe2.com.

Seemed to set up properly, got a tweet just now off newstalk.

Will have to look into tweeting from mobile this evening. I'm outside of 3g coverage 50% of the time during the day, so I would like to see if I can get around that.

I don't really tweet, or have any followers, but I might If I knew I had access when I wanted it.

I've been using twe2 for a while, and it's surprisingly good. It's just simple.

However, I would like to see an Irish number.
We're quite into our Twitter in this country, and we've got a social networking/internet craze, so I am not sure why it's not been implemented.

I know its more of a 'Web Development & Design' forum question, but does anyone know if the API of Twitter allows a SMS service or enables connectivity in this manner? If so, I'd be interested in sorting something out or trying my hand at creating an Irish service number. I'm sure I could pull in some company behind me! ;)

I used to get all the @replies and DMs to my Meteor phone when I had a working plugin on my Wordpress site, but it suddenly seemed to stop working :/

But texting to the Twitter number is grand for me. A little expensive at 15c, so I have to keep it to a minimum.

    Hi
James Kennedy launched www.agtweet.com and if you sign up, you get an Irish mobile number to tweet to. I've also used twe2.com to receive text alerts of @replies and DMs but doesn't seem to be working at the moment. Hope this helps,
    Rgds

    Have you tried Fring.

I use it on my Nokia E51 to stay connected to GTalk and Twitter.
