    Hi

Myself and my girlfriend are looking at getting married in Dublin in December 2010. We'd like to get married somewhere small (not a hotel), maybe a small church or something along those lines - there will be about 30 people, we're then looking at somethign really informal in the evening, maybe a small reception in a traditional Irish Pub. We will then have our main party when we get back to Liverpool.

Ive searched online and only hotels and massive castles keep coming back in the searches. Could any locals receommend anywhere nice for us?

    Thanks

    Chris

what about renting a nice big house over looking the mountains or sea etc for the weekend. It should hold the guests for the reception and there are always planty of b& b s around for people to stay in. Just an idea

I shot a wedding a little while back where they got married at Glendalough Church and then went to the highest pub in Ireland - Johnny Foxes

They had a guest list smaller than yours and most of them were from Italy who spoke very little/hardly any English.

You could have a look at www.daft.ie and see if there are any nice houses that would be will ing to rent to you for a few days. But there is a website that specialises renting out properties short term, for the likes of film and tv they rents only for a few days or a couple of weeks. I cant remember the website but maybe google locations for filming in ireland. Commercials do this all the time i just cant remember the website!

That seems like a great idea. They have delicious fish dishes up there.

Maybe check out The Schoolhouse in Ballsbridge:
    http://www.schoolhousehotel.com or wwww.schoolhouse.ie

Not too far from the city centre - it feels more like a pub or informal restaurant than a hotel but they have a few rooms upstairs as well. Think they have another room upstairs that you can hire if you don't have enough people to book out the main room.

I shot a wedding last year in Glasnevin, the couple married in the church across from the Botanic Gardens, had the wedding shots taken in the gardens and across to the pub opposite the Botanic gates where the function room was all laid out for them. It was a fantastic wedding and didnt lose any of the extras gotten at a hotel bash yet much less cost.

I also have a wedding coming up where the couple will marry at registry, have photos taken in a park in city centre and then go on to a restaurant in city centre for a meal with drinks afterwards. Sounds lovely and I am looking forward to this one.
