We're going to the Vendee in July and need to hire a 7 seater. Has anyone any recommendations as regards carhire companies? I got a quote of €1,327 for 2 weeks which i thought was expensive. We're flying into Nantes. Thanks!

I always nova carhire for France but their quote of €1339 for a Citroen C8 seems to be the same as yours. €100 per day

Do you really need a 7-seater for the 2 weeks ?

Thanks for replying, Ponster. We have 4 children so would definitely need the space. We're spending the first week in the Cognac region and plan on doing a bit of driving around. For the second week we'll stay around Les Sables D'Olonnes or St. Jean de Monts so maybe we could cut back on a few days hire there. We got our flights for €620 so it just seems odd spending twice that on the car hire!

In my experience car hire in France is way more expensive than Spain. Op is that quote for a full size 7 seater like a Galaxy or Alhambra? Perhaps you might get a better quote for a Zafira which also has 7 seats but is smaller than the likes of the Galaxy. You could then " sink" one of the two back seats in to the floor to give you an L shaped boot for more space for luggage.

Squiggle, it's for a full size 7 seater. I thought about the Zafira and some companies had them alright but they were only insured for 5 passengers. I think I'll give them a ring and see if I could pay extra insurance and get a Zafira or Grand Scenic which is what I drive myself. Thank God we travel light - 2 bags and the buggy is all we bring!

Yep car hire is always expensive in France. We wanted to hire a 9 seater there at new year from CDG and it was all confirmed but they actually didnt have any. We had to end up with 2 cars which was very annoying (but they paid for all the tolls and fuel for the 2nd car).

Make sure they actually have what you are booking.

Thanks for that flikflak, it never occurred to me to double check availability. I was always able to get a competitive enough quote when we just had the 3 kids but the jump to a 7 seater seems steep. I'd say it'll be the ferry for us next year. The dream is to buy a holiday home in France and keep a car there, must keep doing the lotto.

Hertz through Ryanair for 2 weeks in July Zafira is €390 and 807 is €850. My brother in law uses the Zafira all the time with 4 children and it is insured for 7 adults on the site.
    Bonne chance.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but this is exactly what my parents are looking for! Like OP said originally prices seem huge. How did you manage to get it so cheap in the end?!

You dont have to be a Ryanair customer to use Hertz, not sure about Hertz at airports that Ryanair dont fly into.

Yea I'm aware of that I just assume you get discount if you use Hertz through Ryanair. I'm guessing thats how the OP got such a good price, along with the other discount he mentioned.

I've never booked but I've used the site to check prices and I dont think you need to actually quote a flight ref number ot avail of their qouted price.

Simply call Avis Ireland and ask for their best deal.

Dont bother with their website. They can and WILL apply discounts over the phone to get the commission payable booking.

True. The discounts you get over the phone can be very, very big compared to web-prices.

FWIW, in relation to booking with Hertz via Ryanair, they can ask for proof that you've actually travelled in on a Ryanair flight. Booked 3 times with them, asked twice.

Thanks for all the tips. Will ring up asap.

    Thanks again.
