    Hi Folks,

I'm studying Science Education in DCU and I need to get my hands on JC/LC maths and science books for both OL and HL.

IF anyone has any of these types of books at home just sitting doing nothing and wants to get rid of them then can you please PM me and I'll gladly take them off your hands.

    Thanks in advance.

Hey, out of curiosity, what's the Science Ed. course like? I've put that down as #1 on my CAO

Erm, I'll be totally and brtually honest! I love the course but it's a tough course especially the maths module.

At the moment the course qualifies you to be either a Chemistry/Physics, Maths/Chemistry or a Maths/Physics teacher. As well as this you are also qualified to teach JC Science. Biology is not offered as a choice at the moment but this could be changing maybe not in time for next year.

If ya want to know anything else it's probably better to ask me questions and then I can answer them!

Shouldn't you be in biology right now?

Ah yeah I knew the 2nd year choice of two subjects and that Biology wasn't included in that. I want to teach Maths and Chemistry so that's why I thought this course was ideal.

Is the maths module a case of you not being superb at Maths (apologies for the way I phrased that, it sounds so down-putting)? Or is it just a geniunely tough course? I'd see Maths as probably my second strongest subject and I think I can get an A2 in it.

Im doing science ed at the mo too n what glenn says is totally true! the maths is impossible half the time! I got a B2 in honours n i find it really tough. There's a maths learning centre in the college that will help you work through problems etc and they're great before tests. All the other classes are handy enough, especially if you have done the subjects for leaving cert, but you will have to work on maths no matter how good you are for the leaving cert

    Hmmmm. That's fair enough so.

In the case of Chemistry and Physics, do they develop from what you learn for Leaving Cert? Or is it basically just revision for those who have done it for LC/Introduction for those who havent?

the first few weeks are revision/teaching the basics but they do add in more info! obviously its easier if you've done the subject for leaving cert as you already have an idea whats going on but they will build on it.

Erm, short answer is no. I got a B1 in LC Maths and have been doing pretty well in the class tests but still the module is a tough module. Last year I believe the vast majority of people failed it and unfortunately had to repeat. If you are willing to work at it though and you have an interest in it (it's not just about being good at it) then you should do fine!
