Hi all, i've a quick health query. I've been running with about 10 months and training away since Christmas for Connemara half and Cork marathon. The last couple of weeks a lot of people have been telling me i look pale. Now i'm feeling fine, eating away as usual and sleeping well and thankfully no injuries (touchwood). I've lost some weight but nothing major so before i wonder off to my doctor in a cold sweat, anyone got any idea to rest a worried boardie's mind?

    Thanks in advance

Do you feel overtired or anything? If it was me, as long as I felt fine, I wouldn't be too worried to be honest. If you're pale I suppose it could be an iron defeciency so maybe a trip to the docs for a blood test to put your mind at rest would be a good idea.

chinguetti, people tell me I look pale and tired the whole time. Probably from too much exercise and being a poor sleeper in my case. However, the best few quid I spend every year is when I go to my GP and do a health check. I get bloods done and an ECG and a letter detailing all the results. Sadly, in light of the news from Barcelona today its a thing that everyone can benefit from. Its not guaranteed to catch a particular problem but its a good first step and its a comfort, for me at least, as there are particular issues in the family history like heart disease and high blood pressure that I'm happy to keep an eye on. I'd recommend you book into the GP for a checkup just to get an expert opinion.

Got a full check up (heart too) before i started doing the running last April and all was fine as had a history of heart disease in my family too so as its coming up to a year ago, might go and get it all done again. Thanks again

I went to GP last year and asked him to do my bloods (they normally don't do this unless you ask them). Came back that I was low in iron so I started taking it last year and I don't know if it's related but after a few weeks it seemed to help my energy levels.

I'd say get it tested. You don't want to be taking on extra iron if it turns out you don't need it. The body can't regulate excess iron, and it can be dangerous if levels are too high.
