i've been using a lob wedge in deep bunkers of late and am struggling to use the club properly to get outa traps
my SW is pretty good at helping me return to the grass but i reckoned i could use a LW to better effect over time
is there any particular reason such a club shouldn't be used in the sand - should i persist with it or revert to the tried and trusted SW?

what is your bounce on your LW?

You could be swinging good but LW just going deep into the sand instead of "bouncing" to get the ball out

    Very good advice.

Your lob wedge will work if the sand is hard/wet and don't open it up as much. This will help to dig it out.

In normal sand you need bounce to get the ball out which your sand iron will have, with this technique you will splash the sand out with the ball. The bounce stops the sand iron digging in which is very destructive in normal/soft sand.

I use my LW out of all greenside bunkers as it means 99% of the time I dont need to open the face (its 60*).
You will just need to adjust your technique a bit as (as above) its not going to bounce like a SW does.

Usual advice, go get a bag of balls and go live in a bunker for a few hours :)

I had a lesson last year and the pro had me hitting my wedge off a concrete path to get the feel of slapping the bounce into the bunker. Didn't do much for my wedge but certainly helped my bunker play
