    Hi,

Inspired by the DIY service thread on here a while back. I've decided to change the oil filter myself. I have the new filter and oil, but I cant find the sump plug under the car. It doesnt appear to be anywhere near the oil filter, can anyone describe it to me? Or better yet, provide a picture?

    Thanks in advance

its right on the sump. you cant miss it. climb under and its positioned more to the back of the sump. its one bolt out on its own. PS be careful not to over tighten it when putting it back in!!

Amen to that, I snapped my plug when tightening it back in. If I hadn't been lucky, the whole sump would have had to come out and either be drilled or replaced.

Thanks for the replies and advice lads. I obviously didnt go far enough under the car... was a bit worried the Jack would collapse or fail with me under it.

Is this possible? I've jacked it up in the right spot on a level spot and it seems sturdy enough. Only my father told me today that his jack collapsed twice today when changing a tire...

Ahh! Do not get under a car that is being held up with a jack, the jack is for changing wheels, thats it! Get yourself some jackstands pronto!

Yeah never get under a car with just a jack. Get a couple of axle stands. There cheap enough and could potentially save your life. If your just using a jack and then your pulling and swinging out of the sump bung to open it the jack isnt too stable and could easily collapse!! If you dont have axle stands....send the wife under to change the oil!!:D

They do indeed, I think mine were about €30 about 8 months ago. But I got the great deal they had at the time that was a 2 tonne mechanics jack and 2 jackstands for €50 i think.

Prob no more than €50 for two.

Here are a set in argos for €19.99

Not the best axle stands you can buy but for light use such as the ocassional oil change they should do you.
