    its been years since I did any Irish - but "Cad é" is "this is or what is" ......."obair" is "work" ...... meh !!!

    Sounds like someone took "cad e mar ata tu" seeing it means "how are you" and tried to say "how is the job/work" to me

    it would roughly translate as what about it for work, ie wasn't that great work

    I'm not an expert by any means, but if "Cad é mar atá..." is correct for "How is..." (as in Cad é mar atá tú?") then surely "Cad é mar a raibh..." seems ok for "How was...".

    Cad é mar....is an acceptable way of saying 'How' in Ulster Irish. But I'm pretty sure that it should be,

    Cad é mar a "bhí" obair.

    You don't use "raibh" after cad é mar or cona, but "bh í". No native speaker would ever say cad é mar a raibh obair nor conas a raibh obair.

    So the sentences looks to mean "how was work" but it is wrong in a grammatical point of view. You’d add the article before "obair" too, I think, otherwise it means "a work".
