    Hi guys,

am looking to insure my first car. I'm... not the greatest driver (still on provisional!!!) so i'm wondering if anyone has any experience with insurance company claims? Which companies are good, which ones are bad?

    Any help appreciated.

Wrong way to look at it girl !

You seem to be 'expecting' to hit a car and have to put in a claim.

Get out there and drive. If you live in a city, go out driving at night when the place is quiet and learn the roads, lights, 'what lane to go where' etc... and your confidence will grow.

To answer your question tho', no insurance company likes paying out money (even less so nowadays) but Quinn have a reputation for being particularly hard to get money from (but this is from hearsay), whereas I reckon someone like AXA or Allianz might be easier to get to pay out (I've no evidence of this either).

Good luck with the test anyhoo.....

Maybe but i reckon better safe than sorry! Am deffo going to practice a lot, though, at night is a good suggestion.

Will avoid Quinn, thanks. Anyone have any experience with the others?

Shop around really. Ive not heard much bad about any companies. With the exception of Quinn, their horrible to deal with.

FBD seem to be giving poor renewal quotes, but no harm going with them if their the best quote for you, just change the next year. (thats what I did)

Try Hibernian Aviva, they have an Ignition course for young drivers, if you complete it you get a big reduction off your insurance.

When I was learning, and getting insurance the first time around, I had no choice but to use Quinn as no one else would insure me - a 24 year old female driving a 1.2 Clio  They're usually the cheapest for the "high risk" (ie learners, young guys etc) motorist. As soon as I passed, I left them though. Anyone I know who had to claim from them had very bad experiences.

Drive a cheap banger and go with Quinn third party. If you have a fender bender Quinn will pay to other party and you can get a panel beater to fix yours.

Don't legislate for crashing- if you survive the first 6 months, you'll probably be fine as long as you don't get bored and stop learning. I've been with Quinn for years and having never had a claim (knock on wood), so I've never had a problem.

Impossible to give a straight answer as quotes will depend on a number of matters ...age, car , location etc.,

    www.sertus.ie/brokers.asp

you may get better quotes from a broker,
check the link above to see if there is a sertus broker near you

i have 2 daughters my self, 1 is with Axa & 1 with Quinn,

take your time & get plenty of lessons from a reputable instructor, & you will be just fine,

I would advise you go with quinn, i was with them for a few years and had no problems. The only reason i changed was because i got a cheaper quote from allianz who are a complete pain in the you know what... to deal with, and im currently wondering if i had should have paid the extra to stay with quinn. Quinn will prob be your best bet on a prov licence, lots of companies dont like to touch them. If you havnt already applied for the test do it straight away, i have a friend who applied and did intensive lessons for a week or so and passed first time around, good going for someone who couldnt turn on a car.

Bit of advice when looking for a quote. I got an online quote from quinn & it was E840fully comp but when I rang them I was quoted E630 fully comp, E210 just for the sake of a phone call. I have 3 years no clamis, 1 year full licence & I drive a 1.4 Stilo. I still think im been ripped off but then again other places were quoting E800 upwards:confused:

I actually seriously don't understand how anyone could come to the conclusion that AXA is the cheapest!!
