Cracking fight (Although wasn't the 8th the best round in years at heavyweight)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

    HUP YA BOYA !!!

    What determination !!!

Absolutely delighted for Rogan. Always comes across as such a decent skin and boy has he made the most of what he's got.

Was surprised that the commentators kept mentioning Skelton's "skill" and "ability". Rogie just out-Skelton'd Skelton.

my god, that man is a hero.
Its great to see a guy with such heart and determination get the rewards.

I thought he was beginning to let it slip and was just hoping he could do enough in the last couple of rounds to get the decision. Then just such a great finish out of nowhere. Wonderful stuff.

Fantastic win. He showed great determination to hang in there after some wobbly moments. It just shows what you can do if you want something badly enough. I'm happy for him as he comes across in interviews as a sound bloke.

Brilliant, just brilliant. He looked like he had run out of steam but what an achievement. A great, exciting fight and he's Commonwealth champ. Unbelievable. Legend.

Just watched the replay there without knowing the result before hand. It's half nine in the morning, I've a whore of a hangover and I've woken up the house screaming and shouting at the television. Absolute great performance and thourough deserved.

Marty enters the world top twenty after winning - he was just inside the top 100 last night

This time last year he was fighting 6 rounds in small halls and hotel bills!

Fair play to ya big fella

That has to be one of the greatest Irish boxing performances in years and especially when you think how late Rogie took up the sport. He's an example to everyone what can be achieved on just purse bottle, fitness and mental will.

Ok, Skelton is an average heavyweight but it's an average division overall. I hope Rogie can get a world title fight out of it and a massive payday, nobody deserves it more. Surely he'll get a world ranking after that win.

could Rogie beat Luan Krasniqi or Alexander Dimitrenko or even Sinal Sam??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭duagre

Its a pity that Chagaev is now due the next shot at Valuev, and then Ruiz is mandatory contender for the winner of that, and then i think the next mandatory after that goes to the loser of the first match. It's something ridiculous to that effect, because one is interim and the other is champion.

I think it must be possible for Marty to get a shot at that belt now, as skelton fought Chagaev for it.
I would have loved a shot at Valuev for Rogie. Mainly because Rogies biggest strenghts (heart and workrate) are Valuev biggest weaknesses.

    ROGIE YER A LEGEND!!!

Seriously, has any Irish fighter accomplished so much in 12 fights? If he is #16 on boxrec he will surely be higher in some of the main bodies?
He should be champion of Europe.

The belt is vacant so who will the ebu nominate to fight for it straight away?

I'm just after reading that Frank Warren has said Rogan will be going for the European title in his next fight and he has promised the bout will be in Belfast

Rogie was amazing in the fight. The man has more heart and grit than most boxers in any division.
Hopefully european title fight against some typically average but tough italian and then get a shot at Valyuev. The big lump would never live with that kind of passion and workrate.

Then retire as undefeated world champ just for the caic.:D Hows that for a fairytale ending?
