Sorry, but i had to start this one folks.

I watched the Spectacular Legacy of the AWA DVD the other day, and then went through a few old tapes to see if i had missed anything i hadn't put over to DVD, and found a 2 hour best of Nick Bockwinkel comp.

Wow, is all i have to say.

There was highlights of a Verne Gagne/Nick Bockwinkel match from 1975 on it, and it really makes you appreciate what a lot of the old school guys really went through to pave the way, so to speak.

The Nick Bockwinkel/Billy Robinson match was also shockingly impressive. That would have been from Christmas 1981, and the equivalant of Angle/Benoit 20 years on.

Anyone else catch any of this guys work? And whats the verdict?

I've seen a lot more of his promos than his matches, and he was one of the very best on the mic. Very believable

Billy Robinson was a fantastic wrestler. He trained guys like Josh Barnett and Kazushi Sakuraba for MMA

It shows too, some of Robinson's submission stuff was off the chart for it's time. You can watch him keep a headlock or an arm drag on Bockwinkel, and it's not like a boring Randy Orton resthold on John Cena, watching Bockwinkel trying to counter it really is a sight t behold.

Vinny Mac really needs to take some of his guys to resthold 101 and show em some old AWA footage. Because christ knows, a lot of them need it right now.
