FAS doing evening start up courses.
Check also the Dublin County Enterprise Board - they are running "Start your own business" course once per week.

There is no course OP that will come anywhere near preparing you for starting up a business. You'd be better off keeping your cash and getting in touch with a few people who are already running their own businesses...

Do you have an idea for a business???

Sorry for this but I have to completely dissagree with you. The cost of my local enterprise boards business course is €50 for the unemployed and €100 for the employed, hardly a waste of money when you get 10 weeks of valuable information on the basics of running a business for someone who has no previous experience. Plus it then opens you up to contacts with in the board who can help you along the way and give valuable mentoring and advise. All I can say is get as much advise and help as you can and more independent the better. It's fine getting help from friends and family but someone you know is very unlikely to say something is a bad idea regardless of what it might be so an enterprise board or a professional business advisor can often be the best to go as it's their reputation on line and they will want you to succeed as "success breeds success" and thats how they make their living.

What if the OP finds themseves in the same situation that I found myself in, which is that I had a particular business interest that the County Enterprise Board was not interested in??? Then you're stuck. There are many many business activites that they do not want to assist, the CEB's are designed by politicians to achieve a political aim, which is job growth in particular sectors. Things being as they currently are, they should cop on and listen to anyone who wants to create jobs...

Hold on here lets not get carried away, the OP wants a course about starting a business they never mentioned funding from the CEB or anything like that. The courses offered by the local enterprise board are exactly what hes after to give him a basis of knowledge to build on and the basics of starting a business and getting setup. You are talking about CEB and not interested in the business, thats not related to what hes talking about thats down the line when hes at the stage of looking for funding and growing the business. Thats the enterprise boards offering funding to you because you expand groth in an area and offer employment. Hes just looking for a course on how to start out.

Every county has an enterprise board that runs these courses for the person in meath asking.

OP, also consider the IMI in Sandyford. I did a business development course there (kind of the next step) and found it very useful. The networking opportunities with other SME managers & owners was particularly worthwhile. Maybe an element not considered by some already.
