I have a postgre db hosted with an irish hosting company. I have the host address and all the details, trying to connect with pgAdmin III. Getting the following error:

could not connect to server: Connection timed out (0x0000274C/10060) Is the server running on host "xx.xx.xx.xx" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

Where "xx.xx.xx.xx" is the hosting companys host address. I have the 5432 allowed in the Firewall and changed the postgres.conf listen address to "*" and added the host address from above.

    Is there something im missing??

Your hosting company might have it listening only on localhost so any other connections from the outside are rejected.

Indeed. The best thing to do would be to contact their support desk to find out for certain.

They claim in their admin panel postgres can be handled with pgAdmin, and they give the details for use with it.

Support not back til Monday, first thing I did was sent a ticket to support! Wanted to see if anyone had any ideas!

    Thanks anyway!
