How long can searches go on for?

tHIS one is going on for 10 days. Fair play to search teams. Very tough on family.

Up to three weeks and more. It depends on local team capabilities and resources, local community and CG HQ requests.

As long as the resources are available and there is still a purpose. Might seem cold hearted but if your searching for a missing person it can quickly become a search for a body, etc. If theres little concern for safety or no suspicion of foul play then the Gardai wont be utilised or kept. Same for all the other areas.

I personally think its an area where the various agencies should pool resources more and work together but Im speaking limited experience

Different agencies search from different lengths of time. The Gardaí are only involved for the first number of days. The Coast Guard have a set time of 21 days (3 weeks). This is the same for community rescue boats. RNLI boat do not do search and recovery operations. They will only respond for calls etc. Civil Defence are activated by Gardaí if inland and are the same, three weeks.
If the search is near the coast or inland waterways then the coast guard co ordinate the search.:D

Would depend on the area and the time of year i guess.
